Fielded another GREAT call at Dem HQ in NC today.
A man called up and bellowed into the phone that he was a Republican who just reregistered as a Democrat and he wants to do whatever he can to defeat Bush.

I said he was in great company because Dwight Eisenhower's son just came out and reregistered as an Independent because he no longer sees traditional Republican values of accountability and budget balancing in this Republican administration. And he also deplored their irresponsible use of the military.

He is coming in to volunteer.

Good day in NC.

1. Fabulous, and smart of you to bring up Eisenhower's son
to a Republican. They would automatically think they were in good company with an Eisenhower (so would I).

It was a deep shout that rang with sincerity.

11. From the letter itself:
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 04:54 PM by Lex
.
"John Eisenhower, son of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, served on the White House staff between October 1958 and the end of the Eisenhower administration. From 1961 to 1964 he assisted his father in writing “The White House Years,” his Presidential memoirs. He served as American ambassador to Belgium between 1969 and 1971. He is the author of nine books, largely on military subjects."

The letter denouncing his affiliation with the Republican Party:

12. Chris Mattews loved Ike. I wonder if he'll give his son airtime?
Maybe we should press him to have Eisenhower on his show. Or at least send him the article to make sure he sees it.
