The AP's Kerry Misquote from this morning: was this followed up here?
This morning, the AP put out a significant misquote of Kerry's statement on Good Morning America.

What they said looked like a big "flip-flop" -- too big a mistake for me to believe I'd read the whole story. So I posted about it, only to discover the AP changed -- 'corrected' -- the quote. Nonetheless, the misquote had already been disseminated.

I had to leave this morning right after discovering their "error." Was it followed up here, or anywhere else today? I'm concerned this misquote will be used in the debate or ads or campaign interviews, etc. (as in, "It says right here Kerry said on Good Morning America...").

Original thread, where I questioned the quote not knowing it was false, is here:

1. ABC's website paraphrases him correctly- he wouldn't have gone to war
Fortunately, ABC's GMA summary of his remarks seems to have gotten his remarks correctly, that he wouldn't have gone to war knowing what we know now (not that he wouldn't have voted for the authority)

I have not seen the misquote used anywhere to criticize Kerry so far.

Here is the ABC GMA transcript:

2. Thanks -- Glad ABC got it right, would love to know why AP didn't
Saying he wouldn't have "voted to support war" is very different from saying he wouldn't have "gone to war."

The first is the misquote, and contradicts his earlier statement that he stands by his vote.

I'm glad to hear they aren't making hay of it (so far) but I'd really love to know how the AP got that SO WRONG... Who fed them the misquote?? How hard is it to get an accurate transcript of Good Morning America?!! Something went very wrong... It would have been enough to get Dan Rather fired!

3. Here's what I learned so far...
The AP reported the story incorrectly at about 8am. Later when the transcript became available from the show, the AP corrected their original statement.

Here is what I heard from a Washington reporter I coresponded with: This person asked to remain anonymous.

OK, as far as I can tell, this was filed around 8:30 a.m. by AP

"We should not have gone into Iraq knowing today what we know," Kerry told ABC. "Knowing there was no imminent threat to America, knowing there were no weapons of mass destruction, knowing there was no connection between 9/11 and Saddam Hussein, I would not have voted to support war."

Also, FYI, AP was the only outlet to have that version of the quotation

At 10:47 AP ran the version with the corrected quote.

Which says to me this is what happened: The earlier version was from the reporter’s notes, not the transcript. In which case, your complaint is with the reporter.

She added:

What the folks at AP most probably will tell you is that they sent a “write through,” which all outlets are supposed to use. Wire services correct stories, update them, move paragraphs around, edit tighter, and resend many versions throughout the day.

:hi:

I'll letcha know if I hear more.

7. On MSNBC

this afternoon I heard something different.

I heard them say that Katie Couric asked Kerry what did he say about the war( didn't catch specifics of war issue) and he said that he said that to a reporter,"one night when he was tired."

The reporter said,"the Bush campaign immediately issued a statement saying that Kerry didn't make that statement one evening, he made it one afternoon."

The MSNBC whoreess then smiled that shit eating grin and went to commercial.

What happened, is this the same story?

Please tell me that what I heard was not true.
