Check in: What did you do for the campaign today?
Me:
Put out 8 yard signs.
Delivered an absentee ballot request to an elderly woman and helped her fill it out.
Contributed $50 to DNC on my mom's behalf. (Happy b'day mom!)
Delivered a voter registration to the office.
Gave out two 'local democratic candidate' slates.

You? GO!

12. Has it started then?
I know they were going to try and give them out at once. I should check with our HQ now and see if the signs are finally flowing. People have been so desperate for them they've been buying their own. The Vets for Kerry in Milwaukee even paid for some themselves.

10. did my conference call training to be a poll monitor
for people for the American way.

http://www.electionprotectionvolunteer.org if anyone's interested.

Other than that I talked to a customer about the election for a few minutes, but I think he was already leaning towards Kerry.

Of course, this is my 12hr work day, and I don't get much else done - and not much work either for that matter.

11. Called the Election Commission for a friend
In 2000, he got off of work at 5pm and went to the polls (he was going to vote for Nader). First he found out that he'd been told to go to the wrong polling place. Strange, as the two places were very close to each other.

When he got to the right place, he said he got in the line where you have to both register and then vote. For three hours he stood there. He said the line never moved. By 9pm he'd given up and gone home.

This year, he hates Bush so much he's voting for Kerry. He just can't even try to vote Nader this time. But he's faced with the same dilemma. He really doesn't want to go back to that polling place again.

So checked into voting absentee for him. I found out that in Wisconsin, he can register and vote absentee if he goes down to the clerk's office after Oct 5. One stop and he'll be done. I'm going to call him tonight to tell him.

So that's one vote for Kerry.

Side story: I was on my way to the DMV to get a duplicate license... because I got stopped by a cop... on my birthday... and blew a .07... damn birthday shot... and the cop forgot to give me my card back.

Anyway, I was counting Kerry signs (five in Bush territory, woo hoo!) when I noticed a Feingold sign with a Kerry bumpersticker on it. Thinking this person might like a Kerry sign, I was going to turn around and leave him/her one. Pulling into someone's driveway, I looked both ways down the street, then backed out onto the road. Unbeknownst to me, someone else in an opposite driveway was mirroring my actions. Suddenly I looked over and all I could see was the south end of a northbound SUV. Crunch.

So now the RealDealMobile now has a big ol' dent in the back panel. And it's all John Kerry's fault! (sob!)

14. I donated some money, what my family can spare till the next paycheck
Gave to ACT, MoveOn, the DNC and Oklahoma senate seeker Brad Carson. Wesley Clark's email prompted me to become involved in Carson's campaign in OK. This Democrat and member of the Cherokee nation is up against an opponent that makes John Asscroft look like Jane Fonda in the 60's. His opponent has characterized this contest as quite literally - a battle of good against evil. I feel sometimes like we are being taken over by the TALI-Christians or something. I don't think any of these assholes have actually read the Bible, they just enjoy the rush of feeling better than someone. Jesus was one hell of a liberal baby.

Carson's opponent has said that he would call for the DEATH PENALTY against ANY DOCTOR PROVIDING ABORTION CARE for women.

I give as often and as much as I can where I really hope it will do the most good. When I have time and minutes I will phone bank.

I am giving free Kerry/Edwards yard signs to neighbors. I'm lucky to live in a FANTASTIC pocket of Dems here in middle hell ameriKa.

16. Today,
1. I passed on a DVD of "Uncovered" to a black friend who has draft-age, male children.

2. Talked to all my employees about checking their registration and taking time off to vote.

3. Chatted up a couple of strangers, dropping the "I'm afraid I don't believe anything that guy (Bush) says" line.

4. Bought "The President of Good and Evil" and another anti-Bush book I can't remember the name of, at Costco.

5. Talked up the Al Franken Show on Sundance channel to employees and friends.

6. Explained to several people why the polls are inaccurate.

7. Bought the DVD of "The Hunting of the President" at Costco in order to pass it around.

8. Passed on useful or encouraging DU posts to my interested friends list.

9. Began both visualizing Kerry being sworn in and also praying for our nation and for God's help for our country.

17. Working for Kerry All Day

I wear my Kerry button and get lots of smiles and respnses.

Took Kerry yard sign to a 32 yr. old friend who is afraid about the draft. He is passing info to all his friends.

Took my hand made Address Labels and stuck them in just the right places all over town. It is so much fun! Can be done in 3 minutes and hidden in your pocket until the Bingo! moment.

Today's stickers said Bush LIED, People DIED

19. canvassed in south Kansas City
...with good results. Lots of Kerry supporters, only two Bush*Bots, a couple of undecideds. I'd printed out copies of the Eisenhower/Crawford endorsement and gave them to the undecideds. Hell, NOBODY could vote for Bush after reading those.

It's been a long week of canvassing so far, and we still have over 700 on our list. Gonna be a busy weekend...

I only cut 'n' pasted a few of the best bits from DU to the Yahoo message boards.

If it's any consolation, they often get a lot of recommendations, and almost NO negative replies, so hopefully the messages are having an impact.

You guys rock!

24. In my last three evenings at the dem headquarters
I've probably signed up a hundred volunteers, gotten important calls to the paid pols but really, I think my most important job there is as counselor and pep squad leader for the depressed democrats. I kind of wish a depressed republican would call once in a while so I could tell him that of course he should be depressed because his leaders are neocon fascists and the sadness he's feeling is actually healthy same around being a schmutz.

On other fronts, I put out a few yard signs and I picked up a whole bunch of bumperstickers for the nurses I work with. Seattle nurses are overwhelmingly supporting Kerry. That might be one of the reasons I like Seattle nurses better than Texas nurses for the most part.
