Just curious. Is there anyone who thinks this is just an ordinary election?
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 05:24 AM by saracat
Is there anyone who doesn't think this is the most important election in our history as a nation? I am really wondering what people think from some replies I have read.
And another question, if this isn't the most important election ever, why isn't it, and what other election could have been more important?

1. Not me
This is only the second election I'm participating in and I believe that it will probably be the most important one in my lifetime.

2. In our history as a nation...
I don't know. There can be arguments for other (wartime) elections that were just as or more important.

It's the most important in MY voting lifetime, is all I know.

3. Not an ordinary election
I'm not sure I'd agree that it's the most important ever--or even in my lifetime--but it's right up there.

5. By far the most important.
I am not sure my beloved country can survive another 4 years of the outrage of * and company. We are on the wrong road, the damage done may not be repairable if we are to remain a Republic. The deficit wrought by these criminals reckless spending is our doom and fascist tactics are still in early stages.

(Being from Missouri I know what Ashcroft really is advocating)

7. I am sure that there are plenty of people that feel this way
However, it is unlikely that you will find any of them here.

8. I suppose one could argue
that the most important election might have been Lincoln's first term, as it was the news of his election that prompted Southern states to secede and sparked the war that cause more American casualties than any other.

FDR's first election also comes to mind as it's hard to imagine what road the country would have taken under Republican leadership at that desperate time.

From all I have read about it, I believe the election of Robert Kennedy could have been the most important of the modern era, but we all know the heartbreaking history that we're left with instead.

So that leaves us with Kerry vs. Bush, certainly the most important election in my lifetime. Aside from neo-con insanity of never-ending war and the subtle dismantling of our individual rights, the thing that makes it feel the most important to me is the gnawing feeling that this election might determine if we will get to have any more elections, or if we even deserve to. This election will be a test of who we are as a nation.

The cynic in me says we're a nation of small-minded sheep who hold our remote controls more dearly than the Constitution.

But then I'm reminded that Al Gore beat George Bush in 2000 by more votes than Kennedy beat Nixon in 1960.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that Kerry beats Bush by twice as much so we never have to find out just how important this election might really be.
