About what they should have done. They should have called one candidate or another on their "misstatements", or they should have been more aggressive in exposing the "negative attacks" by one or the other,or they should not have given so much air time to undocumented slander pieces by one Party or the other.

I do not wish to see a media blame itself after the fact. They have created the present conditions we find ourselves in, regarding this campaign. They were not critical of the debate structure, for example. But, after the fact, we can expect them to scrutinize themselves. I do not wish to see their self-flagellation.

What is particularly upsetting, horrifying, bizzare is that this media just did a mea culpa over the build up to Iraq - and admitted they should have asked more questions, been more suspect. One would think they would take their new found wisdom and apply it to the election - but it is as if they learned a very "narrow" lesson and believe their "reporting" is otherwise okay - and the Iraq thing was just an isolated incident, instead of the most serious in a series of poor behavior and lazy reporting.
