Kerry: "Listen to how many times tonight Mr. Bush uses the word(s)..."??
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 09:53 AM by dumpster_baby
I think Kerry should start the debate with a summary of the key words bush will use. That is really the weakness of the RightWing Propaganda machine and Bush's campaign--they are lauded by the mediawhores for their consistency and their ability to stay on message.

But why is that such a Good Thing? Why not just have a tape recording under Bush's podium, if that is the way they are running this campaign.

BUt Kerry should use that by tapping into media-savviness of Americans. Once he exposes the shallowness of their propaganda by starting the debate telling us exactly what Bush is going to say, he will undermine Bush right from the start....

And he would be tapping into voter perception that bush is overly rigid. What could be more rigid than an automaton who simply repeats certain phrases over and over?

1. Yep - If Kerry can identify Bush's "talking points" early and nuke them
Then either Bush can't use them and will be up the river without a paddle, or everytime he does use them he'll look more like a fool.

2. yes
and every time Bush uses them Kerry should point it out. Maybe he should even mime taking a drink, like a drinking game. Or maybe not.

5. Yes, he could get viewers to focus on bush's automaton campaign
All the pundits are fawning over Bush's vaunted ability to "stay on message" And that is how the Rightwing machine works--by getting out more mouthpieces repeating the same talking points. But by now we already know what talking points they are going to use. And that is their weakness--the whole campaign is wide as an ocean and shallow as a puddle. Expose Bush as the automaton that he is by asking the viewers to notice how often Bush repeats the same talking points.

Ask them if they want a rigid, talking point president, or one that actually thinks.

3. i think that is a brilliant point
repeating the same message over and over again...I personally dont' think it will be anything new..they just do this..they stay on message so make him insecure about that..if the people are warned early about what they MIGHT hear out of smirky smirkersons mouth..it might throw him off just enough to maybe come up with new things to say OR he will be just as Kerry predicted he would be...

will be a focus tonight. This may be very accurate.

8. Kerry could preface his remarks with a heads up to viewers..
to watch out for Mr Bush when he speaks of flip-flopping, safer under his so-called leadership, and his anti-UN remarks. Then when Bush goes to those lines, Kerry could use the old Reagan line, "There he goes again!" That might be very effective.

9. there you go! (again...)
Yes, this could be very effective, and this reference to the earlier debate and that tactic which was so beloved by the corporate media, might be something that catches their eye this time, too.

11. Bush uses the words repeatedly to manipulate the public
"Freedom" is his favorite despite that fact that he has curbed it at home.

"Democracy"

"Stay the course"

"consistency"

All words calibrated to have a subliminal impact on people. Americans are being manipulated by this stuff. The trick is to connect the word "manipulation," which has a bad connotation, to Bush's use of "freedom", etc.

Bush also uses bad words with negative connotation about Kerry: :flip flop, etc.

12. yes, expose the framework techniques of the GOP propaganda machine
Americans are fairly media savvy, and the GOP is playing a straight marketing campaign. But Americans are savvy of -- and wary of -- marketing and advertising.
But exposinf these techniques, Kerry can win.

10. I like that!!
I like the idea taking away Chimp's rehearsed phrases before he starts saying them, in any way it can be done! Simply saying "watch how many times he says" is so good I don't know why I didn't think of it ;)

"Watch how many times he says 'steadfast, resolute, steady, unwavering' tonight, and here's why he's anything BUT..."

13. That's probably why Bush demanded no opening statements
I heard on the radio yesterday that one of the rules that Bush demanded for the debate is that there are to be no opening statements - it's going straight to questions. Of couse Kerry can answer the question in whatever way he chooses so that he can basically make these statements anyway.

16. the inverse works well too
Kerry could at the same time say, "These are words you're not going to hear tonight: Osama bin Laden, quagmire, stop-loss orders/backdoor draft, reserves retention problems, etc."

18. The word "terrorist(s)" has been the key to *'s post-9/11 success
It's like a mantra he repeats to hypnotize the sheeple into continiuing to abide with his Orwellian "Ministry of Fear".

22. yep, the very first thing Kerry should say when he first speaks tonight is
that "the War on Terrorism is NOT the war in Iraq. THe War in Iraq hurts our ability to fight. Mr Bush will tell us that the the War on Terrorism is the war in Iraq. But it is not, and here is why..."

Of course, he is going to be handed a question to answer first off, so he is going to have to deal with that very quickly.

20. Thanks. I just hope that Kerry is going to use it..
...maybe his team reads DU, or we can hope.

Someone else did say that she/he heard on TV that Bush's repitition might be a focus of the Kerry debate strategy.

Man, I sure hope so, because this strategy could help Kerry, IMHO.

21. Kerry's best strength is how quick he can think on his feet.
Bush will give him the opening for a haymaker and Kerry will lay him out on the canvas...er..carpet. Best part, Bush doesn't even know what it is yet.
