3. What's that saying?
Sometimes the anticipation is better than the actual gift.
Something like that....

I am very confident in Kerry. But not in the talking heads who will tell the uninformed part of America who the winner is.

9. I'm feeling really good about it also. I think after 90 minutes tonight
it will be clear to most Americans which candidate is best suited to be President. The rightwing dead-enders will still stick with bush, but those in the middle will see the light tonight. In a few days Kerry will be leading in the national polls.

11. I'm extremely nervous about it
but I'm also ready for it to be over. I hope and pray that John Kerry is able to show the American people exactly what type of man GWB is. However, I'm a bit leery because they said Bush has been practicing for 6 months.

I won't have a problem with the time before the debate though. Right now I'm about to go pick some things up from the store and run some errands. Then I have to get my kids off the bus and help them with homework. Then take my son to baseball practice and then take my other son to taekwondo. So I will be quite busy up until showtime. It is a good thing though because otherwise I might go mad listening to all of the media hype............

40. I have a feeling Bush will not get a pass from the media tonight and will
have to hold his own to be declared the winner. Any gaffes on Chimpy's part will be magnified.

This may be the last chance for the American press to say "The Emperor has no clothes". I have a hunch that they will take advantage of this final opportunity.

43. The format is a lemon but...
Kerry has enough skill to potentially make lemonade and I hope that he does. I'd feel better about it if the reaction to it weren't so much under the control of the media whores who have already have their canned reactions ready, barring some unforseen development, e.g. a total Bush meltdown. Something new, something outside the media's existing narrative about this election needs to come out of this.

19. Hearing Previous Kerry Debate Clips on NPR Last Night
I was really heartened. He sounded strong and spoke clearly with conviction.

All these undecideds tuning into the debate are expecting to see an effete, waffling rich guy who can't even explain his positions. Boy, are they in for a surprise!

And if that happens, I don't even think the media spin will negate the bounce Kerry will get. A week from now the talking heads will be saying "How come Kerry is gaining in the polls when he lost the debate?"

24. The MSNBC film of Kerry with Bernard Hopkins
is a clue to what will happen tonight. Kerry will do to Bush exactly what Bernard Hopkins did to Oscar De La Hoya. He'll anticipate a quick and anxious outburst early on from the smaller man, and then wear him down. Kerry will make us all very proud tonight.

28. Same here
I was very worried about who Al was going to decide to be. Sadly, he decided on a different Al for each debate, first the indignant, outraged Al, then the capitulating Al, and finally by the third debate, the real Al (but of course by then it was too late).

I don't think Kerry will have this problem. I think he will be himself, I think he will talk intelligently and sensibly and from the heart, and I think that with a few carefully placed hot-button phrases or words, he could push the chimp over the edge without ever appearing "angry" or "aggressive" or any of those other qualities that are supposed to strike terror into the hearts of the undecided soccer moms.

I think JK's gonna kick butt.

35. I think people will be disappointed
either that or lulled to sleep. The format is too rigid. Lerher is s snoozer. Both candidates will be more automated than animated

More than that, I think that the debate itself is overriding the very issues themselves. I mean all you have to do is look around. The economy is tanking, oil prices are up over $50, 3rd quarter profits are down, 4th to follow, forget your 401k for the year, in todays stock market. And thats bad news for the people who have jobs even.

More than that, Iraq is all blowed up. Much more

and what do we get? Orange faces, blinking lights, canned replies.

BORING!

55. Yes all this is true....but there's plenty of time for things to happen...
Kerry's been barraged with negativity.

Look at it this way....Bush COULDN'T really beat Kerry on merit...

They've hidden and/or confused the issue of the war....
They've lie on the economy and everything else....

Here we have the 2 standing in the same room. Bush without a teleprompter....

Even though people can't think their way through the issues in general....they have a basic need to HEAR the answer....they are longing for something to take hold of them.....

So this is the stage...as idiotic as it is....it's great drama.....and ironically if enough people can swing on Kerry's side....well goddamit....America has causally beaten the odds of being too stupid to save itself.

38. Same here, I'm hosting a debate watching shindig with 19 others
Five newcomers this time, replacing four departures. A few of them are coming over very early to watch my tapes of the 2000 debates. Most will stagger in very late and have no clue about the issues. This time I emphasized no one show up past the start of the debate, because I want them to see that height difference at the opening handshake.

Tons of pizza, brew and muchies, but we'll stuff ourselves after the debate, not before. That's always my strategy to keep everyone around for post-debate analysis.
