Tonight will make or break Kerry
one more thread and I'll shut up for the rest of the day.

Tonight will make or break Kerry. If people do not come away from tonight's debate seeing Kerry as someone that will protect the country, they will not give him another look in the next two debates. Kerry must make Bush appear as so wedded to his beliefs that he is irresponsibly ignoring accurate assessments of the dire situation in Iraq. Kerry must make people realize they are being continually lied to about Iraq and how that prevarication has had disasterous results for the country. Kerry must convince parents of young adults that their 18 - 34 year old man or woman will likely be drafted next year. Kerry must also convince 18 - 34 year olds that they will never have a better reason to vote.

Indeed, it can be argued that the future of the entire world turns on tonight's debate. If Kerry fails to make his case, God help us all.

Yes, its that serious tonight.

1. I agree
that tonight is huge, but I'm not sure Kerry has to blow Bush away. He just needs to prove he's at least Bush's equal, since he's the challenger.

2. I agree totally! If Kerry doesn't nail this, we need a major event to
sway the election.

6. My intent is not to discourage but
to say how critical I see tonight's debate is. If Kerry doesn't fare that well, we still have lots of time left to work even harder to get him elected.

with your assessment of the importance of tonight's debate.

John Kerry MUST be seen as a viable alternative to * after tonight. If he is, he will win the election.

9. Unfortunately The Media Decides Who Won The Debates...
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 12:55 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
If Kerry is Dukasized in this debate I do not expect a positive outcome in November...

That being said there is no reason to think Kerry won't do well...

4. Its make or break for AMERICA
Either people will wake up or we will descend into fundamentalist darkness. We either live up to American ideals or our great experiment will essentially end in failure.

10. Wrong... there are TWO MORE DEBATES.
Sounds like you're buying into the puditry....if Kerry loses tonight it's all over with...total bullshit. There are two more debates and anything....anything can happen between now and Nov.2. Don't buy the media crappola cause they are gonna say Kerry lost tonight regardless.

13. You're blowing this WAY out of proportion.
No, it's not that serious tonight. And Kerry is going to win regardless. Our turnout is set to break all records, as indicated by record new voter registrations.

14. Tonite WILL make him
The electoral college has settled back down again.
This debate will...within a few days...show Kerry leading in the electoral college.

Now also consider....WTF bad news or invented character assassination plots have these bastards got left?

I believe time has pretty much run out for them.

And with F/911 coming out in video on Oct 5th....you'll be seeing millions going to buy that and we'll have a nice rebound effect.

Although the negativity has taken its toll...we're now in the home stretch...and I really don't see any true blue GOPism out there. As ironic as it sounds...it's THEY who are the ones that are really hanging on negativity....not us.

The power punch will occur on election day when we behold that in fact the dems will have a great turnout...much more than predicted.

15. Sheeesh, he should just ignore the shrub
and talk diectly to the people. I trust his gut instincts. He'll be more than fine, he'll be great tonight. His sixty years of doing the right thing will see him through. I'm just hoping that his innate flaws; good manners, intelligence, scope of knowledge, etc. don't do him in. (sarcasm)

Bush is like a really bad tennis player who has a few tricky shots and gives you nothing to hit against. I've played old codgers at my club who have beaten me because I got snookered into playing their soft serve sort of game. By the time you figure out their loopy, squishy shots, the set is over. It's not worth it. Ignore the creep, pretend he's barely there. Treat him like the nonentity he is.

16. EXACTLY!
Read the post-mortems on the Kennedy-Nixon debates. One of Kennedy's great strengths (which probably did him more good than his tan or his smile) was that he spoke directly to the audience, as though Nixon were not even there. The only time Kerry should even acknowledge Shrub's presence is when Shrub outright lies; then Kerry should come up with his own version of Reagan's "there you go again", then light into him.
