Bush treats the law like a joke but has a stick up his ass over "rules"
Debate Panel Nixes Kerry Campaign Request
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 3:37 p.m. ET

Advisers for the Democratic presidential candidate demanded Thursday that the lights signaling when a speaker's time has expired during debates with President Bush be removed from the lecterns because they are distracting. The commission hosting the debates refused.

...

An agreement between the Kerry and Bush campaigns required camera-mounted timing lights for each candidate ``positioned in his line of sight.'' It also specified that timing lights ``shall be placed such that they are visible to the debate audiences and television viewers.''

Mark Wallace, deputy campaign manager for Bush, said Democrats sought the change ``because they don't want the American people to know that Sen. Kerry can't follow the rules.''

2. You Know, Here's A Silly Thought...
....it's actually occured to me that Kerry has already figured out a way to live with this whole thing with the lights on the podium, and is only "complaining" about it to give the Bush folks a false sense of security.

Think about it:

1. I know we've almost NEVER seen this from a politician, but it IS possible to make a concise, even convincing, point in three minutes or less. Of the 42,000 rules attached to these debates, NONE stipulate that you have to use ALL of the time allotted you for a response.

2. You just know the pundits are going to be wagging their wretched toungues about Kerry's percieved inability to give a straight answer until the debate starts. If Kerry can consistantly answer his questions with time to spare, that would be a win for him -- one the media couldn't somehow spin against him with a straight face.

3. The Bush folks are already wagging their limp dicks about Kerry breaking the rules. They're mad confidant about tonight. Wouldn't it be something if it was BUSH who broke more debate rules than Kerry tonight...?

I think this is all show, folks. The funny part is Kerry may be the one with the last laugh here...

3. I Was Thinking The Same Thing (after I thought about it for a bit)

Kerry's has an opportunity to really WOW! everyone by being concise and to the point.

I already can sense the "media" slavering at the prospect of slaughtering Kerry for "breaking the rules" and going over the time limit. It's obvious this is the spin that's supposed to distract from the substance of the debate...What will happen if he pulls that rug out from under them and doesn't do it? They'll be left w/ nothing except the actual substance of the debate.

4. This little tidbit will come back to snakebite them bigtime...
the first time * breaks one of their hallowed rules.

"Mark Wallace, deputy campaign manager for Bush, said Democrats sought the change 'because they don't want the American people to know that Sen. Kerry can't follow the rules.'"
