Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 03:37 PM by DakotaDemocrat
I'm taking a vacation day to drive little old ladies and others to the polls on election day. Its something I have to do. Plan on having the ol Aztec stocked with cookies and coffee for them. I can't wait!

I know what I'm doing on that Tuesday, do you?

working for the exit polling firm. It will preclude me from campaigning, but could be interesting.

My wife and I will be doing poll monitoring, making sure those who show up to vote get a chance to. I'll be down for the weekend through Tuesday; my wife will probably come down for a week.

5. I'll probably be an Election Judge
Depends on whether I can get the day off. My boss is a big Kerry supporter, so it's highly likely.

I took off of work the day before and the day of. I will just show up at HQ and say "Take me."

24. Me too...
I'm taking the day off work, renting a minivan, and driving people to the polls. I just found out who I need to talk to at the local campaign HQ. Then I'm taking the next day off to recover...

Hi,

I looked into that and even submitted my information as a possible volunteer. Can you tell us what's involved?

21. I'm poll monitoring too
Also through www.electionprotection.org

I got an email telling me when training sessions are - those are done by conference call from your home. Then the night before elections, we have training in the area where we are assigned, then on the day, we help resolve voting problems on the spot at the polls. You get a 4 or 5 hour shift, although if you want to work longer they'll take you.

They are doing it in battleground states, so if you signed up but you are in a state like California, and didn't say you were able to travel, I don't know how they'd use you.

13. Attending an in-service day, as my workplace is also a polling place.
They use our gym for elections, so we have an in-service day every November. I'd love to take off from work and help, but I'd like to keep the job I've got as long as I can, and missing an in-service would reflect poorly.

That being said, I'll be getting up extra early to be one of the first people to vote at my polling place before I come to work. I wonder if I can volunteer during my lunch hour... :)

16. Who do you contact to drive little old ladies?
I'm able and willing, but have no idea who coordinates this. I live in Houston. Any ideas?

18. I called local office, and...
they hooked me up with Daschle's office.

I don't think the DNC can coordinate this anymore, must be done by local candidates.
