Blackwell's Directive on Voter Registration:
Advisory 2004-06

September 29, 2004

All County Boards of Elections

This advisory is a clarification of Directive 2004-31.

The voter registration form prescribed by the Secretary of State must be printed on white, uncoated paper of not less than 80 lb. text weight. However, any otherwise valid Ohio forms received by your Board of Elections not on 80lb. text should be processed and the newly registered voter should be sent and asked to return the legally prescribed form to be kept by your Board as a permanent record.

Sincerely,

J. Kenneth Blackwell

LOL! Blackwell is covering his ass by saying that his previous directive stands BUT it only applied to the form prescribed by his office. Any other form is still valid, though.

The bottom line, though, is that all of the state's Boards of Elections have been instructed to register everyone who sends in an otherwise valid form, regardless what paper it's on.

This is great! Now we have to stay all over the boards and Blackwell to make sure that they actually follow through. Every Ohioan who registered this year should contact their Board of Elections to confirm that their registration has been processed.

Here is a list of Boards for the largest counties. Some of these permit you to confirm online whether you are registered.

1. Thanks, nice find
I've been following Blackwell's antics in my blog.

Here is what he said about registration forms on thinner paper, Sept 9,:

The form prescribed by the Secretary of State must be printed on white, uncoated paper of not less than 80 lb. text weight. Any Ohio form not printed on this minimum paperweight is considered to be an application for a registration form. Your board should mail the appropriate form to the person listed on the application.
