Debunk: Iraq/al-Qaeda/Oil For Food?
From a FReeper-type on another board:

The United Nations Oil for Food scandal is under investigation and the early implications of the investigation are:

1. Much of the UN's finances come from American taxpayers.

2. Many front corporations owned by Saddam benefitted from the UN "Oil for Food" program.

3. Many UN member states, including France, Germany, and Russia, benefitted from the UN Oil for Food program.

4. Two or three al-Qaeda front corporations benefitted from the UN Oil for Food program.

5. Total loss so far in the investigation is around $10 billion.

Why are these implications important? The lead-up to the Iraq War revolved around 10 years worth of Hussein's violations of around 18 UN Security council edicts. The member states that opposed action in Iraq were France, Germany and Russia, whom it is being discovered had good reason to oppose it...they directly benefitted from the UN Oil for Food scandal. One of the reasons for the invasion was that Saddam harbored and helped terrorists. If the investigation is correct, Saddam is shown in a direct link to al-Qaeda, you know, that group that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks.

So is there any grain of truth to all this, or is it all just bullshit? I need sources if you got 'em.
