I have a long-standing firefight going on with a group of particularly ignorant Wingnuts on, of all places, a board that is actually built for talking trash about AFC Central football. It's just what you think it would be: a lot of unfunny goofs repeating the Repub talking point 'o'da'day, cut-and-paste jobs from Drudge and WorldNet, and general unmitigated derision and disrespect for anybody who doesn't bow fealty to Our Preznit.
Today, on the eve of debate, these guys (and they are all guys) are all so confident of a Bush victory tonight that they are openly celebrating the end of the election. They literally think it's a waste of time for Kerry to show up, they're mocking his tan, they're talking trash about the CIA as being a bunch of dolts, and they're circle-jerking each other in anticipation of Bush turning Kerry into a burbling pile of mangoo.
Yet, when one of them actually opined that he thought turnout was going to be UNDER what it was in 2000, I had to shame him into taking a $50 bet on it by calling him out as a chicken. And even though they'll spam the board with all kinds of anti-Kerry Moonie Times claptrap (the latest being some BS about how Kerry is getting ready to "cheat" tonight and how that shows he's not the man of honor and integrity that Dear Leader is), the nanosecond I or one of the other handful libs hit them with actual facts, they can only call names -- and completely ignore the content of any of the discussion.
I mention all of this not to recruit folks onto the board to drive these weasels nuts, but just to give a report from a front line in The War On Brains, my edition: the Wingnuts are acting like this year's Lakers.
I hope.
