1. My best friend's sister's boyfriend
heard from this guy who knows this kid who says the draft board denied Kerry's request for a deferment.

In other words, it's apocryphal bullshit, nothing more.

3. The Facts - According to Google
I just did a Google search on this. This story seems to be the main topic of discussion on many web sites, including Free Republic. It comes out of the "Swiftboat Vets" book that so many of them are using as their Bible today....

Apparantly (from what I read on several of the more reputable sites), John Kerry requested a deferrment so he could satudy in France - this was standard procedure back then, when men who already had student deferrments wanted to modify them. The local board denied the request. Thinking back to how things were in 1966, the local board probably denied the request because they didn't want a draft-eligible young man flying out of the country.

John Kerry later enlisted.

4. And Bush...............
checked the little box that said he wouldn't serve overseas too. Bush was clearly too scared to leave the country, so he stayed and disobeyed orders, failed to take physicals and didn't fulfill his obligation to the ANG. So what!

5. It appears to be true. So what?
He asked for a deferment. He didn't get it. Rather than wait to be drafted, he enlisted. Sounds good to me.
