PRINT THIS OUT and put it in your pocket
I have a better version (without % change column) in my back pocket, it was called "They did the Math" a Deloitte & Touche comparison of Bush and Kerry's tax plans from the Washington Post. I can't find the original article now.

PRINT THIS OUT-when you hear "Kerry will raise taxes!" Ask them "WHOSE TAXES? YOURS?"

The chart I have is much cleaner and easier to read (though it printed fuzzy).

4. Excellent! And yes, mine
but I DON'T CARE!!! Or, more precisely, I do and that's why I think I (we as I am married) should be willing to shoulder more of the tax burden (a whopping $1600 more under Kerry) to afford those who have less the opportunity to make ends meet. Is that really asking too much?

7. Media blitz
I'm emailing the list to my local newspapers and TV. Everybody should do the same. Also, this list doesn't include tax cuts for education and health care that Kerry is also planning for middle income people and small business.

8. Why the large gap between 120k and 265k ?
Does the 120K % apply all the way up to 265 ?

9. Yes

The chart I have (looking at it right now) shows that there is no effect on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. ZERO!

Like I said above the one I have is make cleaner and easier (not that it is really tough) to read. Still can't find a link to that WaPo article.

Now I am not sure if that is gross or AGI (top of the second page of the 1040). I am not sure but if you make that much you can afford a pro to get your taxes lower-what did W say about "rich people know how to avoid paying taxes anyway"?

13. Thanks - and I would suspect that is the adjusted or taxable rate since
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 01:48 PM by MazeRat7
we are not taxed on our gross before deductions.

edit: to your last comment... I work hard, which rewards me well, AND I believe in paying my fair share unlike monkeys boys pal's.... guess thats why I am a dem.

12. And what will this do over time?
It will....as did Clinton raising the upper rate to about 39% bring increased revenues to the government....I think at an estimated 80B per year. Yes the economy has to pick up and yes the spending has to go down (on war and defense in particular to reasonable levels) and then we'll see the potential to achieve another balanced budget within the next 4 years.

Critics may point out that they will simply put this into spending programs...but if it is preventative health care....good business health care...then there will be a net positive to the American people.

But recognize now we aren't in as good a situation as we were when Clinton took office. The debt is now higher. What Clinton gave us was actually the potential to PAY DOWN the debt....to the tune of 500B....man we'll be lucky if we can see that in the near future after what Bush has done to reverse everything. Kerry may also not go along with other taxes such as the gas tax....to speed the transition to a balanced budget....we'll have to see. However I believe Kerry will supplement this with other taxes on corporations that should achieve a net benefit to revenues to perhaps double this 80B. Not really worth pinning down specific numbers now because we'll have to see what Congress looks like in the future.

Morale of the story is this....tax breaks to the rich DO increase revenues coming in....like when they got all excited when one quarter yielded say 200 million extra revenue compared to a previous quarter....but the NET effect to the government is a grand loss of total revenue coming in compared to an equivalent situation prior to the tax cuts.

The Ronald Reagan notion that "you can have your cake and eat it too" is one of the most profound economic lies of all time. Money is disproportionately pushed to the top of the heap, the true economic machine of the middle class is compromised because trickle down only trickles....and the net effect considering that NO ONE has a plan to reduce spending to a point where the tax breaks can be afforded....

IS RECORD DEFICITS!!!!!

Each and every IRS taxpayer now pays 8 cents on the dollar for interest on the national debt. Some predictions say if Bush gets in and continues on his current path...we'll be seeing 12 Trillion total debt and interest payments FOR EACH AND EVERY TAXPAYER of perhaps 15 cents on the dollar!!!!

16. I used this yesterday on a leaning Bush guy
My boss actually. He's voting Bush but keeping his mind relatively open. I showed him this sheet because it presents both sides in a non-partisan manner, which is what he's most open to. He also likes Factcheck.org and snopes.com, both of which I showed him.

He tried to look up more info on his own after he looked at this flyer, but ended up on heritage.org. I gently let him know he was on a conservative site and that if he wanted non-partisan commentary on each man's tax plan, that was probably not the place to get it, even though the article he was looking at has a few good things to say about the Kerry plan. Reading it over his shoulder though, it appeared to be subtly skewed toward Bush. I showed him their homepage, with a quote from Rush on it, and he agreed that they were probably biased.

Thanks for the resource btw. It's already come in handy. I will also give it to HQ.
