Langford has eyes on governorship, presidency

Langford for president in 2016?

The Jefferson County Commission president said Tuesday he is interested in the nation's top elected post. He also said he would consider a run to become Alabama's first black governor in 2010.

But first, he wants to run for a second term on the commission in 2006. That would give him time to complete projects like bringing street cars back to Birmingham, he said.

Langford said that as president, he'd even push for a 10 percent flat income tax, with no deductions.

1. Great, a flat taxer! That's worked so well in Iraq, why not try it here?
Nice to see ambitious politicians we like down South. But they don't all have to be loons do they?

2. Would some one please tell me
what is so wrong (Sar) with the progressive income tax? I think that a graduated and progressive income tax is the best a fairest tax approach to take.

3. He Will Win Neither of the Two
Lucy Baxley is going to be the Democratic Nominee for AL Governor in 2006. She is well liked by both sides and will make an outstanding Governor. Also, she will win hands down because our current Gov has ruffled many of the Repubs feathers. They will vote for him, but it won't be enough.

Maybe this Langford fellow would like to run for Richard Shelby's US Senate seat in 6 years? It will be an open Republican seat, and if he is Alabama's Barack Obama, we could take it from the GOP.

4. Larry Langford
Used to be the Golden Boy of the Bham metro area -- until Visionland went belly up.

He has about as much chance of winning statewide as Roy Moore has becoming mayor of San Francisco.

6. Jesus comes to Red Mountain?
From the Atheist Law Center website:

FEBRUARY 18, 2004
STATUE OF JESUS TO FULFILL PROPHECY OF THOMAS JEFFERSON?

Larry Darby today suggested that Jefferson County (Alabama) Commission President Larry Langford’s proposal to put a marble bust of the Bible character Jesus on display on Red Mountain might fulfill a prophecy articulated by Thomas Jefferson in an 1823 letter to John Adams:

“And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter….”

It is noteworthy that Langford wants to place the bust of Jesus next to Vulcan, the Roman God of the Forge. Jefferson specifically referred to classifying the mythology of Jesus with Roman deities, Minerva and Jupiter....

...However, the Center does appreciate this proposed action by Langford, which in effect would be a Government statement that the Bible character Jesus is now classed with other mythological characters.
