The sales tax is going down in flames:

Proposition 13 -- 54 of 122 precincts reporting (44%)
SALES & USE TAX ON TANGIBLE GOODS SUBJECT TO CERTAIN EXEMPTIONS AND A $200 CAP, A PROVISION FOR PARTIAL COST REIMBURSEMENT TO SELLERS COLLECTING THE TAX, AND A SUNSET PROVISION, WITH ONE HUNDRED PERCENT (100%) OF THE TAX RECEPTS AFTER COSTS OF COLLECTION, APPLIED EQUALLY THROUGHOUT THE MUNICIPALITY TO FUND ESSENTIAL SERVICES IN SUBSTITUTION OF PROPERTY TAXES.

No 19,722 70%
Yes 8,415 30%

I just got home from my little girl's hockey awards dinner and ran to KTUU to check the results.

I'm sure glad I didn't check it when you first did!!

It's now:

Mayor -- 65 of 122 precincts reporting (53%)

Mark Begich (I) 18,291 55%
Jack Frost 13,708 42%
Nick Moe 835 3%
Thomas Higgins 189 1%

6. p.s.. the KTUU site isn't updating for some reason...
But Channel 2 just said that 89% of the vote was in and Begich is winning by a large margin!

(Of course, they'll probably find some way to avoid stop saying it, but still it feels good that they've been proven wrong.)

Anchorage is no longer a Republican city.
