Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger might be the new darling of the Republican Party but at the cost of straining ties with some of those who helped him win the recall election last year.
While Schwarzenegger was being feted back in New York City for his speech to the convention, traveling to lavish corporate-sponsored parties, he ignored one being held at the Ritz-Carlton by Anaheim city officials.
Anaheim is one of three cities vying to win the 2008 Republican convention. Also in the running are Atlanta and Tampa Bay.
The governor, however, was too busy to show up at the Anaheim event hosted by Mayor Curt Pringle. It featured, according to news accounts, Beach Boys music, Mickey Mouse flag pins and -- perhaps more importantly -- an open bar.
