AdWatch: Spot targets uncertainties of Prop. 72

A coalition of fast-food chains, retailers and other business groups opposed to Proposition 72 this week launched its statewide television ad campaign with a 30-second spot. The referendum seeks to overturn a law, SB 2, requiring employers with 50 or more workers to provide health insurance or pay yet-to-be determined fees to a state purchasing pool. A "yes" vote upholds the law, which was signed by Gov. Gray Davis before he was recalled last year.
Following is the text of the ad, which is airing statewide, and an analysis by Aurelio Rojas of The Bee Capitol Bureau.
* MAN: "So, a ballot measure to cover the uninsured."
* WOMAN: "Prop. 72 is not just about the uninsured."
* MAN: "No?"
* WOMAN: "It affects people who already have insurance. Could force us into a new state-run health plan."
