Boxer nervously enjoying lead in Senate race

By Beth Fouhy, AP

SAN FRANCISCO — Facing her third run for the U.S. Senate, Barbara Boxer is finding herself in an unfamiliar position: the heavy favorite to win re-election, despite a history of closely fought campaigns and her enduring status as an outspoken liberal Republicans love to hate.

Even so, the 64-year old Boxer is running as if her life depended on it, despite a breathtaking financial advantage over her Republican challenger, former Secretary of State Bill Jones, and statewide polls showing her with as much as a 17-point lead.

“I never ever take elections for granted — Californians are very independent and you have to win their votes,” Boxer said in an interview. “I don’t believe the polls, I think the race is closer. I just have to fight with every fiber of my body.”

A scrappy campaigner and proven fund-raiser, Boxer has pulled in over $14 million for the race and has already spent $7 million before running a single television ad.

1. Hey I love her but why did she vote to confirm Goss today?
I mean really...what is the logic in that?

3. She wasn't the only great Democrat to vote for Goss
I guess it's a matter of knowing when to pick a fight.

"But Mr. Goss's confirmation seemed to be assured when it became obvious that he had the unanimous backing of Republicans and more than a few Democrats. His fellow Floridians, Senators Bob Graham and Bill Nelson, were among the Democrats who expressed respect and affection for Mr. Goss.

Other Democrats who voted for Mr. Goss included Tom Daschle of South Dakota, the minority leader; Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware; Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut; Russell Feingold of Wisconsin; Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, both of California; and Charles E. Schumer of New York."

And I love her for being so feisty!

2. That's an great attitude to have
Much better than other senators that just sit back once they're happy with poll numbers. She's got my vote! Well, she'd still have it even if she sat back and relaxed a bit. B-)

5. Question
How has your expat voting experience been?
