U.S. Senate candidate Bill Jones, who polls show is unrecognized by many Californians, received an endorsement Thursday from one of the Republican Party's best-known faces, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
Jones said he was thrilled to have the support of a high-profile politician whose endorsement could help make a difference in November's election.
Giuliani spoke on behalf of Jones at the Santa Monica Airport during the first stop in a two-day campaign tour across California. He appeared Thursday before a crowd of about 25 members from the University of Southern California's College Republican Club.
During his brief remarks, Giuliani blasted Jones' rival, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, who he believes has been weak on terrorism and has not shown support for the U.S. military.
"Barbara Boxer has voted against almost all of the things that would make it necessary for us to carry out the war on terror effectively and to protect ourselves here at home," Giuliani said.
