I support prop 70- Ahnuld opposes

Prop 70: Equal Opportunity for All Indian Gaming Tribes

Prop 70, also known as the “Fair Share Initiative,” is the Tribal Gaming Initiative proposed by California Indians.

California Indian tribes support Prop 70 because it gives all tribes equal opportunity.

70 gives new hope to our people, raising money to help our reservations and requiring Indian casinos to pay hundreds of millions each year in new State revenue.

Prop 70 is fair for all Californians…

Gaming tribes will pay their fair share, no more, no less than other Californians

Gaming tribes will be on a level playing field, all paying the same amount to the State – there will be no more special agreements for some tribes and not others.
Gaming tribes will pay $2 billion to the State over 5 years* – money that is critical to close the State budget deficit and maintain funding for education, health care, and public safety.
Indian gaming will be limited to Indian reservations.

1. I don't see why a sovereign nation should pay any share at all
Haven't we taken enough from them as it is?

2. What the governor recommends, do the opposite...
I heard on NPR this morning a commentary that suggested that Arnold has taken an unusual step in enumerating his opposition and support for various props. The thinking is that if people vote the way he suggests then this would be some sort of proxy vote for the gropenator.

This madness must stop!

:grr:

PS Of course, the strategy in the subject line is irrational. Do not try this at home.

3. I can't support anything that will create more casino gambling
I've seen too many families harmed financially by the gambling habits of one or both parents.

This conflicts with my libertarian philosophy.

4. no thanks
"Upon request by federally-recognized Indian tribe, Governor must execute renewable 99 year gaming compact"

"Grants exclusive tribal gaming rights; no limits on number of machines, facilities, types of games on Indian land."

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_viguide_pg04.htm

What a wonderful way to bring more traffic and pollution to our rural communities.

"I don't think you should build a 5,000 slot machine/2,000 room casino/hotel in the middle of those wetlands where there is only a 2 lane road 200 miles in either direction and there's no real way to get rid of sewage"

"Too bad. According to prop 70 you have to OK it."

68 and 70 are both scams

5. well we raped them for years
i think we still owe it to them. if it ends up being their undoing then thats the cycle of life i suppose.. but we certainly can't deny them the right to do whatever they want on the small dried up desert we forced them on to.

6. I disagree
i think we still owe it to them. if it ends up being their undoing then thats the cycle of life i suppose.. but we certainly can't deny them the right to do whatever they want on the small dried up desert we forced them on to.

First of all, not all tribal lands are plots of "small dried up desert".
Sacramento, Big Sur, the Klamaths... heck they even want to put up a casino in Richmond... in the heart of the Bay Area.
There's another tribe fighting for rights to put a casino in San Mateo.

The very definition of "tribal lands" is disputed... ranging from any ancestral lands to any land purchased by the tribe ( which could be the house next door )

Second, if they are doing something on Indian lands that affects the local environment and the lives of those around them, then the people of the state have the right to demand they be regulated in the same way as anybody else.
