san diegans - donna frye joins mayoral race
(09-30-2004) - San Diego City Councilwoman Donna Frye announced Thursday that she will run for mayor as a write-in candidate in the Nov. 2 election.

Frye made the announcement at 11:45 a.m. at the City Clerk's Office.

Frye, 52, said earlier this week that she was considering the run for mayor because community members urged her to seek the office. She said the city's debt-ridden pension system and ongoing financial problems are weighed heavily on her decision.

The Democrat is running against two Republicans -- Mayor Dick Murphy and county Supervisor Ron Roberts -- for the nonpartisan mayor's office.

With five weeks to go before the election, Frye has yet to appoint a campaign strategist and has raised no funds to wage a write-in campaign.

Donna Frye is a wonderful person, a champion of environmental causes, and married to legendary shaper, Skip Frye. This is great news for San Diego! Good luck, Donna.

2. I'm writing Donna in!

With 2 pukes splitting their vote, I think we've got a great opportunity here. Donna was just on local TV news. She's well known, widely admired for her integrity, and her name is easy to spell.

4. Frye was on the local news this evening.

She's running a contest for who has the best DONNA FRYE for MAYOR yard sign. This is sheer brilliance. She obviously doesn't have the money to buy tons of yard signs and rent a headquarters and pay staffers to distribute them. But lots of people love Donna and she knows we're perfectly capable of making our own signs--most of the homemade yard signs will probably be a lot better than anything you can buy wholesale.
