Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 06:57 AM by blondie58
I signed up the first morning that it was announced- and I'm still waiting.......

I wasn't looking forward to the zoo that getting down there will be- but this would be a part of history. I hope that they televise it, at least.

2. They are supposedly non-transferable.
But how are they going to check the ID's of 80,000+ people against the bar code ID?

BTW, I guess I will get a ticket for my work in the party and being an Obama delegate to the county and state conventions. When they said that I would have to volunteer some more to get a ticket I decided not to apply. Not that I won't do more work. It was just sort of insulting.

3. Have not heard in NC who got them yet
We are supposed to find out today who got picked in the ticket lottery. I figure some will show up on ebay or craigs list.

10. "sort of insulting"..... exactly. Like a mother with two kids who works two jobs can't go because
she wouldn't be able to volunteer.

Then they wonder why we poor folk don't take them seriously...

:grr:

11. They Need Volunteers
Gawd - have you ever worked a presidential campaign? This is the FIRST time I've seen so many people interested...finally. Do you know how hard it is to call 124 people in 3 hours only to find out 50% have moved, 40% not home, and if you're lucky you get to talk to 10%. Your head is burning from the cheap cell-phones provided.

In 04 on election day, I was running around neighborhoods where none of the people who were on the list still lived . Illegal immigrants were the norm. What a huge waste of time - it was cold, and should not have happened.

There are plenty of poor folks volunteering this time. There are plenty of options to volunteer 7 days a week 11AM to 11PM even for those of us who are challenged. Sorry you can't volunteer - but if you can't volunteer, you surely can't attend the speech - it's a day long journey - not going to be easy for any of us who got a ticket.

15. Who's the prima donna here?
I've worked tons of volunteer hours for candidates, I could have been a delegate in several ways, including through my teacher's union; I've worked phone banks, and canvassed petitions, and I don't think that gives me privelege to put me at the front of the line...some have earned that in other ways, kind of takes the heart out of volunteering when you expect a return, I think. And your reply seems very snotty and disrespectful to another supposedly on the same side.

16. clarification
The "supposedly on the same side" was as I'm not sure which side of the people you are on, I know bobbolink is on the side of the people who need to have advocates, not sure about you?

17. Thank you, maryf..... not just for me, but for many others I get email from
who feel VERY left out, forgotten, and abandoned.

Clearly, from the sound of this poster, that ain't gonna "change" any time soon.

I just hope they're prepared for the consequences of verbally abusing us and tuning us out.... a loss of votes.

Cuz that's what's in the air.....

I appreciate your understanding words! :loveya:

that you are "challenged". I take that to mean you have some kind of disability, well so do I. I have also been working for the Democratic party since before I was voting age, but it is getting harder and harder, yes because of my health, but also because of attitudes like you are displaying. Why must you resort to name calling? We should be all on the same side!! But too many have forgotten what being a "progressive" or "liberal" is all about. I have always believed that it meant looking out for our fellow human beings, no matter what their station in life, especially the poor and downtrodden.

4. With so many on the waiting list - why can't they have a spillover
Someplace like Dick's sport stadium or Red Rocks or the baseball field? Have it televised on the big screen and then Obama and a few special Dems could come over later (or earlier) so we get our real dose of Obama.

I want to be a part of this historical moment, too!

9. I'm in!!!, I'm in!!! but not by virtue of the lotto
But by the grace of my union (NALC #47) and the AFL/CIO who were working with a group called Labor 2008, who had a phone bank that I had volunteered for. I missed our union meeting last night- totally spaced it- I'm a little overloaded as I am moving soon, so I was preoccupied, but my friend told me to call today and I got the last spot. Now granted, these are the nosebleed seats, but I don't care- I'm in!!!! Sadly, my other two liberal friends did not make it- but I think that they felt obligated with me as I have worked the phone bank to call on the various ammendments.
