Fun things to do in Denver while you are here.
Locals... please post your favorite fun-time places to visit while the delegations are here. Post link if possible.

One of my favorites (yet very cheesy) is Casa Bonita.

1. Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden
I ate lunch at Casa Bonita last Monday. Hadn't been there in decades. Lots of kids were there. I told my out of town guest that she couldn't say that she had visited Denver without going to Casa Bonita. Just don't tell any former Denverites that she went there. ;)

One of my favorite places is the CRRM northeast of downtown Golden. And they have a very special attraction today and tomorrow:

The Whistle Stop train tour was an important campaign strategy for candidates for many years. When a candidate's train pulled into town, the whole town turned out to hear speeches, and the festive fair-like atmosphere made it an important civic event.

The Colorado Railroad Museum is recreating that special atmosphere with the Whistle Stop Event, this Saturday August 23 and August 24, hearkening back to the first Democratic National Convention held in Denver in 1908.

Red white and blue bunting will festoon the railcars and picnic grounds.

You'll lose track of time as men and women in Victorian costume mingle with the crowd and help to take you back in time.
We'll have old-fashioned games like egg and spoon races from a more innocent time at 11:00 and 1:00.

Ride behind a steam locomotive, sip lemonade, wave flags, and listen to band music.

This will be a very special event for the whole family. We look forward to hosting it! See you there!

I wanted to tell you about Red Rocks films on the rocks, but it seems they're done for the season, except for this one http://www.redrocksonline.com/pages/concerts/detail.asp?id=3893
If you like Willie Nelson, he will be playing on Tuesday.

It is the absolute most beautiful venue in the world, imho. This is where U2 had their famous video "Under a Blood Red Sky" filmed.
Take a drive up to Evergreen- it is very scenic and will be a nice escape from the heat.

You could go see a Rockies game at Coors Field, our newish ball park that is in the style of an old fashioned ball park.

Welcome, all of you to our beautiful state. And don't worry, our city government are going to ship out all of the homeless people for the week, so by all appearances, the city of Denver is practically perfect and doesn't have the usual big city problems.:sarcasm:

oh, yeah and our local Air America is at 760am! Most of them will be at Denver this week, but the shows will still be on.
