Hey, Orlando, can I help?
I'm here in Philadelphia, having read Bob Herbert's and Paul Krugman's infuriating columns in the NYTimes about voter intimidation by Fla State Troopers in Orlando...(Visit mostly elderly black voters, voice suspicion about the absentee ballots they filed in the last election, scare the hell out of them in hopes they won't vote at all come November is the gist of it.....)
Is there a list of good Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts down there that could use a little cash? I mean a little (I'm not George Soros, unfortunately) but I'd be happy to pass on the info to other Dems as well and we all hate being up here and worrying and would like to do something... (We haven't got much to worry about here in Philly...last time Al Gore scored 85 % of the city vote and I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry gets 95% this time. At least we're working on it!)
Thanks for any insights.

2. A link from our local progressive paper
doesn't think this specific circumstance to be as nefarious as NY Times does. Judge for yourself. I think after the 2000 election it is awfully hard to not be suspicious.

I just returned from a Kerry Meet-up, one of 4 in Orlando. There was a good turnout. Word is there are more volunteers and the campaign is way better organized than was Gore's. Don't know specifically where to send $, but I personally like MoveOn.org as they are working to organize volunteers in non-swing states to work in swing states.

Thanks for your concern. We will need all the help we can get.

4. And thank you, too!

I read the piece..I'm afraid I'm still suspicious, and certainly NOT because I have any bias against Floridians, which the article offers as a reason for "New Yorkers" concerns. I'm glad to know things are going well in Florida, and your idea is a great one...MoveOn is, I'm sure, on top of things all over the country. I'll give them something and let them use it where they think best...
But, hey..don't hesitate to let DU'ers know if we can help in any way.
