Howard Dean endorsed his opponent.

He refused all campaign contributions.

He had no paid staff.

But tonight, Sam Sheldon has won the Democratic nomination for US Congress from Florida's 18th District.

By 302 votes.

Looks solid on the issues. Of course, it's a Cuban-majority district so he's quite the longshot.

3. He's running against Ilena Ros-Lehtinen

I hate her guts, but she wouldn't seem to be in too much trouble. The odds I saw placed the race at 9:1 in favor of the GOP.

He seems to have a pretty good platform, but is the campaign for real? I noticed on his website a few meetups. I wonder if someone could check (after hurricanes). I will call next week or so.

5. My opinion

I think he's running a serious campaign. It's important that we contest all these races and not let Republicans run unopposed.

His race is not one that the DCCC is targeting for a pickup. It would probably take a big Democratic surge for him to actually win.
