2. Ok, I admittedly know nada about meteorology nor hurricane patterns
But, given this current model, what would make Ivan bounce back into the gulf after a direct hit on FlA and a glancing blow on the Gulf States (specificallly Mississippi and Alabama). Why wouldn't it keep moving up over the southeastern states and up the east coast?

Just curious what the factors are here...

11. Hurricane Camille: "She was no lady"
There was a hurricane which wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast back in the 60's.

The slogan for it was "She was no lady" because she nicked the coast and departed, then did a loop and returned. Hundreds died.

Hurricanes are only somewhat predictable. They CAN change direction on a dime, given changes in the fronts which channel them.

5. Frances???
This is not Ivan... I think it is Frances pictured... the date on the image is Aug. 31 and the hurricane is pictured going over Florida, but Ivan has not yet hit and is still in the Caribbean... So, this isn't Ivan.

10. Well, I guess it is Frances
The original post I saw of this in another message board played it off as Ivan so I ran with it. But Ivan is the topic of the day, so I thought the image would be a funny projected path.

13. What?
All I see is a still infared satellite image with the hurricane sitting out east of the Windward Islands. Based on the date it looks like it is supposed to be Frances, but the location isn't right, Frances was north of Puerto Rico by Aug 31.
