Army man mourned after Iraq drowning

"The parents of Capt. Christopher Kenny can't believe their son drowned Monday in Iraq. Growing up in Miami, they say, the 1989 Palmetto High School graduate was a ''great lover of the sea'' -- a strong swimmer, a certified diver and an avid fisherman.

''His equipment must have weighed him down,'' said his mother, Jackie Kenny.

Christopher Kenny, 32, was one of four soldiers, members of F-Troop Fourth Cavalry Battalion Reconnaissance Team, to drown in a canal near Khalis, 45 miles northwest of Baghdad.

Jackie Kenny said she and her husband, Jim, talked with their son's commanding officer Tuesday and learned that their son was traveling with three soldiers during daylight hours when their Humvee ''disappeared.'' It was found underwater in a canal hours later. There was no indication of an explosion or violence, the family said."
