Miceal Shiavo's endorsement of Jim Davis
(Link to endorsement)

Clearwater, FL – Today Michael Schiavo announced his and TerriPAC’s support for
Congressman Jim Davis, candidate for Florida Governor.

“Jim Davis showed the courage to lead on this important issue,” Schiavo said. “When he had
the chance, Jim Davis stood up for the rights of families and individuals to make their own
decisions without political or government interference.”

When politicians forced Michael Schiavo’s personal family tragedy to the floor of the U.S.
Congress, Jim Davis led a small group of lawmakers to speak out against that unprecedented
and illegal interference. In his remarks to the Congress on the Schiavo tragedy, Davis called
on the Congressional leadership to respect the rule of law, reject political gamesmanship and
honor the privacy and dignity of the Schiavo family. Ultimately, 57 other members joined
Congressman Davis to vote against the Schiavo legislation.

“Even though my private family issues became a national spectacle, they had no business
being debated by politicians who did not know me or Terri,” Schiavo said. “Congressman
Davis was one of the very few leaders with the courage to place conviction above politics,
stand for the rule of law and respect our privacy.”

Because of Jim Davis, the issue was did not pass in the night with no debate. Davis showed up and gave a passionate speech (text of the speech is in the link). Tom Delay rescheduled the debate to the next day thinking the Repugs would get brownie points from it. Davis led the oppositiion. Without him this issue would not have garnered as much national attention that it did and show the Repugs for the hypocrites that they are. (Micheal Shiavo's Blog)

1. Rod Smith formed a coalition to stop it in the legislature.
I wish Michael would at least recognize that. He does not give credit for that at all.

It would keep others from criticizing Smith unfairly on this if he would explain that Smith put forth great effort.

There was a post at Kos with people trashing Smith. Michael was posting, and he could very easily have put a stop to the undue criticism.
