Did anyone wind up showing up at Kelly's Saturday night?
WolverineDG,Babylonsister and I went and didn't see anyone from DU. Stonecoldsober showed up and we wound up leaving and just going back to our hotel -- DG and Sister were pooped. I was ready to party, but there was no one there. Granted, it was only about 8:15, but the place was packed and very noisy. It would have been very difficult to have a large gathering there without having planned ahead for it.

It was great seeing everyone who showed up Friday night -- 50-60 of us, I think -- and to march together on Saturday.

1. I went by but all I kept meeting were Notre Dame Alumni

Apparently they had a big party in the basement. I did drink Pilsner Urquell all night long for $15.00. It was a strange beer special, for $15.00 you could drink Miller products (Light, High Life, MGD) or Pilsner Urquell. I went with the Pilsner and had a good time with my friends but was disappointed that I did not meet anyone from DU.

11. I didn't even see them
We took a quick walk around the place to see if we saw any DUers, and when we didn't see anyone we knew, we left.

5. Yesssss!
we met, sort of. I thanked you for organizing.

I couldn't find the group at all on saturday. At one point I saw someone I recognized, but someone asked me a question and when I looked back, I couldn't pick him out again.

None of that spoiled the event. It was one of the best things I've ever done and certainly the most cathartic.I feel so much better today.

7. Oh, sorry
I met so many people, it was hard to keep all the names and faces straight. I'm glad you were there.

8. Was not able to go to the Hawk
My children had things to do and even with my wife and I splitting the duties, it is still difficult to get them to everything they want to do.

6. I headed back to Harrisburg
Geez, I had this great room at a great price in a great location and they end up doing repairs right outside my hotel room. First time I complained they said they would be done around 5:30 but at 6:30 they were still at it (we're talking drills & hammers). When the hotel offered to move me into a different room; once I got packed I figured I might as well just head home. They didn't charge me for the 2nd night.

Ultimately when I got to Baltimore I called my mother and told her I was heading to Harrisburg. Her birthday was that weekend and I figured I had the next 2 days off so I might as well visit (Harrisburg is about the same distance from DC as Wilmington is but just driving a different direction once you get to Baltimore)

Sharon - you did an amazing job!

Lynne

10. Thanks, Lynne
You didn't miss much Saturday night, as you can see. It just didn't work out. We really needed someplace reserved like we did at the H&D, although you never know how many will show up after the march because so many people just are too tired.

Planning something at H&D is really easy -- the success or failure is all in making sure people know about it and whether or not they actually show up. I'm really glad Marcy was there, too. Although a lot of people didn't get to talk to her, I think what people did hear was really interesting.

12. I'm starting to think the Hawk & Dove is the best place for all our DC gatherings
This is twice now that H&D has taken care of us with our own room (and even a second room when we were done with the upstairs room). I see no reason to look around elsewhere since who knows what'll happen.

14. Plus,
The Irish Times has a kind of conservative element. I mean, I wasn't bugged, but as I walked in there was a couple on either side of the path to the door and this guy says to his wife, look out or your gonna have to smell a hippy." And I said "excuse me" very politely, and "I wouldn't want to offend your olfactory organs." and walked on by. I don't think I look much like a hippy, but I had stickers and buttons all over by coat.

17. That's awful!
if I had been sure folks were going to show up, I might have stuck around and let the others go back without me.

16. I think you're right
Although they would have had a conflict for Saturday night, so I don't think we could have done it there both nights.

15. I came by around 8:30...
I was so disappointed because our flight was delayed on Friday and we arrived late on Friday night.... the rest of our group of five was too pooped to make it. I was determined I was coming Saturday night to meet everyone. I kept asking our waiter if he had overheard anyone mentioning DU...and kept looking around wondering what a DUer might look like. :) But in the end I figured I had just missed the party and left....sadly. :(

18. Oh, darn -- you didn't miss us by much
We probably left just after 8:15 or so. I know it was early, but we didn't see anyone, the others were exhausted and the place just didn't look real conducive to one of our meetups.

20. Just got back from DC and catching up on 1/27 threads
I went back to the hotel after the march fully intending to go to Kelly's - but my feet were killing me, so I stretched out for a nap and woke up at 10:30! Figured I'd missed you guys, so I didn't go.

Agree that H&D is a great venue. Lots of fun seeing everybody.
