10th CD in play!!! Let's support this guy, Dan Seals!!!
-snip-
The online newsletter Cook Political Report, one of the Beltway's better handicappers, last month put the 10th on its list of about 50 seats the GOP conceivably could lose this fall. Mr. Seals raised $374,000 in the first quarter and says he's "in that ballpark" for the second quarter — well behind what Rep. Kirk has in the bank, but pretty good for a guy running his first race.

Perhaps most telling: Illinois' two U.S. senators, rock star Barack Obama and Democratic Whip Richard Durbin, have jumped into the race big time, committing money, attention and personal time to the effort.
-snip-

Sen. Obama declined comment, but party insiders suggest Mr. Seals reminds the senator of himself: young, attractive, articulate and African-American. Sen. Durbin says he's just helping a good candidate, but others say it's no coincidence that the target is Rep. Kirk, who many consider the GOP's strongest choice to oppose Sen. Durbin's re-election in 2008.

Mr. Seals says he doesn't know if that's true, but neither is he looking any gift horses in the mouth. Instead, the 34-year-old executive at General Electric Commercial Finance is trying to make the race a referendum on President George W. Bush, whose popularity has sagged in the socially moderate, soccer mom district.

1. Fantastic!
The 10th is very socially moderate. With a good candidate, which Seals seems to be, it's definitely possible to win this one, though Kirk is one slick puke.

2. Getting rid of Kirk would be ideal.
As his name has been floated around as a possible candidate to run against Durbin.

3. I was pleased to see a lawn sign for Seals on a recent drive
along Sheridan Rd in a very wealthy neighborhood. I also passed the above information along to my sister, who lives in the 10th District.

4. We can put the Illinois 10th in the Democratic column
Dan Seals has the support of both Senators Obama & Durbin
because he is a great candidate. Dan is bright, articulate,
charismatic and his positions are clear and well reasoned.
Both senators have done fundraisers for the Seals campaign.
But Dan Seals needs as much help as possible. Kirk, the
incumbent is well-entrenched, well-financed (Kirk has over
$1.5 million on hand already) and the Republicans are not
going to give up the seat in the Illinois 10th Congressional
District without a big fight. The 10th is winnable but we need
your help. Please go to www.dansealsforcongress.com and check
out this important Illinois congressional race.

5. The saddest part of this race is...
...the fact that Mark Kirk could be the ultimate rep for the area if he would stop being a party hack. I'm a dyed in the wool Dem, but I also know a few things about Kirk. He actually has a decent environmental record. He doesn't seem to be a nitwit neocon; at least by Midwest standards. If he could just change that bad habit R's have in terms of not straying too far from the party line, he wouldn't be that bad, especially considering the district he represents. It's a very wealthy district that is roughly 50% Progressive/50% MODERATE right-wing.

Now that my daydream is over, let's elect Dan Seals.
