Tammy Duckworth picked to lead Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs
CHICAGO, Nov. 21 -- Iraq war veteran and failed congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth has a new mission: directing the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) announced the appointment Tuesday.

Leading the agency is a logical next step after a losing bid to replace retiring Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-Ill.), said Duckworth, a Democrat and former Army helicopter pilot who lost her legs after a rocket-propelled grenade attack north of Baghdad.

Tammy Duckworth, a former pilot who lost both legs in Iraq, is nominated to head the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. "As a soldier I fought for my country, and now I thank Governor Blagojevich for giving me the opportunity to fight for my fellow Illinois veterans," she said in a statement.

I think this is a good fit for her. She would have been better for vets in the Congress, but this beats nothing at all.

1. i'm glad that tammy will stay in the fray.
she was a good candidate, and i, personally, do not believe that she lost.
however, i must say, if we needed any more proof that she was the candidate of the beltway boys, there it is.
she does not seem like the kind of person who would dance to someone else's tune. but she is a good soldier. i dunno. my opinion of her remains mixed. i hope she does a great job. it sounds like a good one for her.
i still think they ran a kinda shitty campaign. she should have cleaned roskam's clock. i don't think they learned anything from christine. they should have. i don't think i could have put up with having every mention of my name followed with- who lost her legs. a stupid card to play as though it was the ace of spades.
argh. i am just in a shitty mood today.
go tammy. keep growing and learning. outgrow those handlers.
