1. Yep.
I haven't stepped foot in any of the stores since the name switch in September. My sister was out in the Orland store before Thanksgiving to get some Frango mints and said it was like shopping in a Montgomery Wards store. Nuff said....

BTW Sheila, we have to get a Chicago/Illinois DU meetup scheduled sometime after the New Year. Mr. Wonderful and myself are going to Ireland on Dec. 15th and we're scheduled to return on Jan. 8th, so anytime after that would be perfect.

3. You're the second person I've heard that comparison from....
Funny that both were Montgomery Ward's.

The meetup is a great idea. Have a wonderful Christmas in Ireland.

2. i only ever shopped at fields for my mom
she was always happy to see that green bag. the matriarch of my dad's side of the family had worked for them as a buyer back in the day, and always shopped there for everything. so, it was a little bit of "keeping up with aunt loretta", even if it was a small thing.
but mom passed 3 years ago, so i have no reason to go there.
i was more mad about them moving the frango kitchen than changing the name.

and ditto on that meetup. we are overdue.

4. I would boycott if I lived there
Fields did alot to give Burr Tillstrom his start in television (he gave puppet shows there, one was televised on closed circuit TV in the late '30s. Then RCA asked him to go to the 1939 Worlds Fair). I hate these businesses from other parts of the country doing "buyouts" of shops with local history and slapping their name on it. Something similar happened with ZCMI in Salt Lake City before I left. It was ZCMI for over 100 years, then it was The May Company, now I hear Macy's will acquire it as well.

5. No.
I don't live in Chicago but wasn't Marshall Fields a big union busting company back in the day anyway? Why would I have shopped there to begin with? Dropping out of the corporate economy and buying locally is something I do as much as possible. It should be much easier to do in Chicago.
