Amy Jacobson gaffe gets her tossed from WMAQ
What an enormously STUPID conflict of interest thing to do.

Jacobson out at WMAQ

WMAQ-Ch. 5 reporter Amy Jacobson negotiated her exit from the station Tuesday after video surfaced on a rival station showing her at a poolside gathering at the home of Craig Stebic, whose wife's disappearance Jacobson had been covering.

The news staff was informed of her departure In a memo Tuesday afternoon from Vice President of News Frank Whittaker and News Director Camille Edwards. "We are sorry to tell you that Amy Jacobson is leaving NBC 5 News, effective immediately,'' according to the memo, which was obtained by the Tribune. "Amy's contribution as a reporter over the last 10 years are numerous. Her hustle and passion for news have given us an edge on many top stories. She's worked long hours on many days, and we appreciate all she's done.

"The last couple of days have been tough on everyone,'' the memo states. "We appreciate your understanding.'' The memo concludes: "We will miss Amy, and wish her the best.''

Officials at WBBM-Ch. 2, who had been debating since Friday whether they should air the tape, aired clips on Tuesday morning and posted a report on the station's Web site after the tape's existence was reported in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.

This is another case that from the beginning I thought stunk to high heaven.

As for Amy Jacobsen, what a dimwit. Could imagine Carol Marin or Pam Zekman doing anything remotely like this?

2. I heard that -- big shock.
I suspected him all along (it's pretty obvious), which made Jacobson's behavior all the worse.

No, I cannot picture Carol Marin or Pam Zekman doing it, they are professionals. Nor Anna Davlantes, who the triplets' father knows from the restaurant where he is the chef and says is a sweetheart.

Several years ago, a friend of mine was somewhere where Jacobson was covering a story. My friend's comment at the time was that she thought Jacobson was stoned or drunk at the time.

3. I should hope not...the thought of either of those two in a bikini makes me shudder...
...As far as Jacobsen is concerned I whole-heartedly agree...Grade-A Dimwit....
