Stop Discriminatory Amendment Against DuPage County NOW!
Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 10:34 PM by AtLiberty
Illinois State Senator Dan Cronin has amended HR1752 regarding candidates filing petitions. In Illinois, candidates must have petitions signed up five percent on constituents. Cronin wants to raise this to 1.5 percent ONLY IN DUPAGE COUNTY in the Republicans' ongoing quest to maintain one-party rule forever.

And if you think this doesn't affect you if you don't live in DuPage County, think again. DuPage is the most populated Republican (allegedly) county in the state with a mountain of influence.

HR1752 is up for a vote this Friday, Aug. 17th!

ACTION ALERT: No to Cronin's amendment to HR1752. Make some noise! Call your state leaders and tell them to vote no to Cronin's amendment.

Read page 8, line 22...then read page 9, lines 1, 9-10.

1. Ok, maybe I am just dense tonight but do you mean
that he wants to have 6.5% of constituent signatures in DuPage rather than 5% as in other counties. OR, does he want to lower the bar to just 1.5% for DuPage constituents rather than 5% elsewhere.

Sorry for the question - but I may not be the only one confused. If I call, I need more info.

2. He's raising the bar only for DuPage...
Candidates in DuPage County must obtain 1.5% signatures.

Candidates elsewhere in the state only need to obtain 0.5% signatures. So, the amount of signatures in DuPage will be three times the amount elsewhere in Illinois.

6. Call IL State Senator Terry Link
Call both home office and Springfield. The original bill was simple with nothing wrong, mandating a raise for election judges. With numerous amendments, it morphed into something pretty awful -- SB662. Being a busy summer with focus on budget woes, it seems our state leaders neglected to read the amendments. Also, there are amendments which counter election reform and transparency, including denying poll tapes to pollwatchers.
