Four Illinois counties declared disaster areas.
4 counties named disaster areas

Tribune staff reports
2:26 PM CDT, August 24, 2007

Gov. Rod Blagojevich was touring flood-damaged areas today and declared four northern Illinois counties state disaster areas: Cook, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties.

Another round of thunderstorms is expected to blow through this afternoon and tonight as work crews try to restore power, clear roads and alert people across the Chicago area to flooding dangers.

The National Weather Service sent out a flash flood advisories for today that warn residents about storms capable of producing heavy rainfall, in some areas up to 2 inches an hour. Those totals, along with nearly 3 to 6 inches that has fallen since Thursday afternoon, could produce runoff that leads to dangerous flash flooding.

1. Yeah, that was the scariest drive home from work ever!
I drove right through the middle of that damn storm at about 4:30PM. Scared the crap out of me. I swear I saw a funnel cloud start to form.

3. My company closed today at 3 so everyone could go home before new storms developed.
It's now 5, I've been home an hour and the sun is still shining.

Go figure, but I am not complaining.

4. My power went down in my office in AH about 3:30
I am across Algonquin from Meijer, next to Papa Doux and a big oak blew down and took 2 power poles with it. Still no power and still no sign of ComEd, sighhhhh....

Drove home and caught the 2nd wave, thought my lil civic was gonna tip.

5. My office's power went out for about two minutes.
Also took out the phones, email and internet connection. All returned after about one hour on Thursday.

I hope you get the power turned on soon. There certainly were lots of people who lost electricity.
