what? no posts about the bank robbery?
big deal up here in rogers park. got half the neighborhood blocked off. guess they got it all settled down now. the neighborhood wingnut bloggers managed to blame the alderman for failing too capture the perp. he was right there on the sidewalk when he got away, after all.
life in RP.

1. Right down the street from an apartment I'm supposed to go see today.
I hope all the hooplah is over by the time I get over there.

6. No worries there...
I've moved in and out of RP several times.

My first real apartment was on Morse and Lakewood, and my second, Lunt and Paulina.
It's been about 12 years, though. Since I've been looking over there, I'm mightily impressed with the progress. It's much less "gritty" on Morse, now and all the "interesting" buildings I remember have been rehabbed. Not near as many Dicey places as I remember.

At least once I do get back over there, I can get to the Heartland for my friend's Wed night show, without it feeling like a trek across the country.

8. A lot of the old apartment buildings in Rogers Park....
have undergone gut rehabs and converted to condo. The building where my aunt and uncle lived years ago (SE corner of Greenleaf and Wolcott) was selling units when I was looking for my condo (ended up in the suburbs). I checked out the place -- the rooms were really small and the asking price more than I could afford.

9. yup, many people are crying about the condos
but a lot of people who would be stuck renting are able to buy some of these smaller, less showy units. when single family homes are creeping up toward the million mark, a condo for $100-150k gives people a place to start building some equity instead of building someone else's equity.
let's face it, a lot of the "affordable rentals" were affordable because they were in horrible condition. i am happy to see that people want to invest in this neighborhood. i'd like to take some of these whiners for a ride through woodlawn.

3. Which bank?
Please tell me it was First Commercial (aka First Comical), the bank that, when I was a lowly college student working a part-time job that actually lost one of my paychecks.

What assholes at that place.

My family immediately contacted other banks and moved our money.

4. the very same
sounds like he might not have even gotten any money. he slipped out of the building shortly after entering, and there turned out to be no hostages. ruined their day, tho, that is fer sure.

5. It could not have happened to a more deserving bank!!!
They STILL owe me a couple hundred dollars. THEY'RE robbers too!!!

Though I am relieved that there were no hostages.
