Police: Human remains are not related to missing suburban women
Source: Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO - A Chicago Police spokeswoman says the human remains found frozen to the ground in a field on Chicago's southwest side are not related to the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond also says the body is not related to the disappearance of Lisa Stebic.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled today on the badly decomposed remains found Friday by a suburban land surveyor.

Authorities say the worker found a human foot and leg near a blue garbage can. But Chicago police have said they did not find a blue garbage can.

1. I hope they find out who this is. I am confused about the blue garbage can thing.
What does a blue garbage can have to do with anything?

2. They are saying there was no blue garbage can nearby.

A neighbor in the Drew Peterson investigation thought they saw Drew loading a blue barrel or garbage can into his SUV around the time his wife went missing.

It seems unlikely to me that a police veteran would load a body into his vehicle in the driveway rather than in the garage. It also seems unlikely to me that he would dump the body in an open area, such as the one where this body was recovered.

4. Ah, I missed that. Thank you.
I thought it might be more along the line of "reported near a can" and couldn't find a can so perhaps there is another body bit our there. Thanks.

3. Someone the cops interviewed
In connection with the Drew Peterson investigation into the suspicious disappearance of his latest wife, one witness has told the police that he or she saw Mr. Peterson and his brother manhandling a blue garbage can in the days after the woman's disappearance. The proximity of the blue garbage can to these remains suggested that this might have something to do with the missing Stacy Peterson.

6. I lived in Bolingbrook Ill (Where the Peterson's reside) back in 1981
I shared a fourplex - and the people whose bedroom walls adjoined mine included a violently tempered man who beat his nine year old.

I called the Bolingbrook police on several occasions. In each case, two officers showed up and went and investigated. They would come back to my front door and tell me that "A man has to do what a man has to do" and also "A father has the right to discipline his child"

On one occasion, the girl ended up with a broken arm. Onanother occasion, she ahd a fat lip and black eye.

I moved way from Bolingbrook and my old roommate called me to say, "Well it was in the papers today tht one of the Bolingbrook's finest has just been indicted for murdering his wife." (The murder took place some twelve months before I began making my phone calls)

I really wonder about that police department!

BTW Peterson has been on the police force long enough that he may well have been one of the officers telling me about a father "needing to do what he needs to do!"

11. Yes, and one should. They should also record the sounds coming from the adjoining unit.

12. The Bolingbrook police sound like a real crackerjack squad.
Protecting and serving themselves.

They didn't look to hard at the death of Peterson's third wife. At least now the ISP is running the investigation. And they have a grudge against Peterson to begin with, so they're not gonna look the other way.

8. breaking news on a national story, and I get moved to the IL forum?

AC360 was reporting live on the police investigation last night. I figured people might want to know the results of the medical examiner's ID.

10. I do feel foolish. I don't know what constitutes breaking news.
I don't post there enough to know better. It's on the landing page for CNN.

I think my error was failing to apply the Nancy Grace theorem, which states the amount of time Nancy Grace would allot coverage of a story is inversely related to the journalistic worthiness of said story.
