Election Story -- And How Was Your Experience/Day at the Polls?
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 12:10 AM by orleans
my daughter worked a precinct in dupage county today -- a red county. the precinct she was at had a bigger turnout for dems than republikas.

there are supposed to be a fairly even number of dems and republics but this one she was at was 3 to 1 (3 democrats)... the other people phoned in sick or whatever and the head worker (a democrat) never called the election board to report they were short. (which i think was fucked up)

some people came in, not knowing which party ballot they wanted, but telling my daughter they wanted to vote for the "woman"

they had a dre there and only about a dozen people voted on it. (glad it was so few)

the precinct i went to vote in (in dupage), there was a small line and a kid of about 20 was working behind the table. i was glad to see a "young" person there, interested enough to take on the job. there was a dre there also, and while all the little booths had someone in them i didn't notice anyone using the dreaded machine.

on edit: my daughter heard quite a few people saying they just didn't know who they were going to vote for. lol. (i finally made a decission as i was leaving the house to go vote!)

1. McHenry County here

.... we walked right up, only 2 people in there voting. They blew the dust off of the Democratic ballot (as usual) and we had no problems. We have one electronic voting machine but they had that off to the side and I didn't see anyone use it.

Cheers

3. Yep, but it's getting better

....when I first moved up here, I voted late in the afternoon and they had to open up the Democratic ballots for me. When I said I needed one the look of shock was unbelievable.

As more people move up here from the Chicago area we become a little bit more blue.

Cheers

4. Kane County...
Our precinct has a 2.5 to 1 ratio of registered republicans to dems. When I voted at about 5:30 there were more dem votes there than republicans by several dozen. Yippee! Checked today and we had only 35% turnout.

As we have to elect a replacement for Hastert this spring, was surprised more people didn't turn out. The Milk Nazi is now going to take on the Scientist from Fermi. (WWF will want to tape this contest, I think!)

6. I was the Democratic election judge in my Elgin precinct.
We had close to 50% turn out of registered voters, and I handed out more Democratic party ballots than Republican ballots.

Nobody in my precinct asked for a Green Party ballot, but there were a few at another precinct voting in the same room.

I hate to pigeonhole people, but about 90% of those asking me for Republican ballots "looked like"
they would be asking for one before they even spoke to me.

7. I volunteered for Pera's campaign. I gotta say
I don't feel too comfortable in Bridgeport when I'm not at work. If I'm at work and I'm there I'm a hospice nurse in someone's home and people are nice. But, if I'm not working and I'm in the area I feel people staring that kinda "what the hell are you doing in our neighborhood" kinda feeling. I think the lipinski flyer at the end of the campaign probably helped. It was depressing.

I did have a good time voting tho.

8. I live in the 3rd Congressional District and I'm not depressed.
I'm pissed off. Lipinski did it again except this time he got 2 sham candidates to run, Bennett and Caparelli. Last time it was only John Kelly.

Mark Pera ran a decent campaign and deserved to win but the stupid people on the SW side of the city and in the SW suburbs couldn't or wouldn't get it...

I live in Oak Lawn and I think I'm the only person with a Mark Pera for Congress sign in a window. I didn't see a single other one in my neighborhood. But of course, Jerry Hurckes is the Trustee (Alderman) of the district and there were Lipinski signs all over the neighborhood.

Next time the Northside DFA should concentrate on places lilke Bridgevew, Burbank, Oak Lawn and the Palos area instead of Bridgeport. Bridgeport is a lost cause as far as progressive candidates go.

I hope Mark will run again in 2010. Lipiski's an asshole of the highest order and needs to be beaten.

10. My son worked as an election judge in Naperville.
He said they were steady all day, with a few busy periods.

In his precinct, people asking for a Democratic ballot outnumber republicans.

That is unbelievable, if you know anything about Du Page County.
