Illinois is up for grabs?
What's this poll, CBS channel 2 in Chicago, saying the race is a dead heat in ILL? Bushbot congressman from Peoria Ray LaHood quoted it in the paper.

Maybe this is good, it will increase Democratic turnout, and end complacency. No more talk of, "Oh, I don't really have to vote, Kerry has Illinois sewn up."

I strongly doubt that the Chimp will carry Illinois. Blagojevich won here by 200,000, and Al Gore by a lot more.

But this will be fodder for the FMR.

4. You see this all over
Wisconsin hasn't gone to a Republican since Reagan and yet we are leaning towards BushWorld!? It seems talk radio has penetrated minds worse than ever, that and fear of Godlessness, gays and global terrorism. Minnesota has been Dem since whenever and it is in play!? Wwwhhhhat?

5. Why wasn't there a huge stink over the Repukes dumping The
Fairness Doctrine in the '80's?

God almighty, how that one thing has changed the political landscape in this country.

6. Under Reagan
How we got here was a planned and determined path after Nixon era to reclaim America for the Republican scourge.

9. Both Wisconsin and Minnesota went for Gore by the narrowest
of margins in 2000, so it's not surprising they're in play. BTW, I didn't realize Dukakis won Wisconsin.

7. let bush believe its a dead heat
I hope he pours money into the state. He might as well flush it down the toilet.

More money spent here by bush on a hopeless cause means less money spent elsewhere.

12. Bush and Kerry camps don't look at CBS 2 polls
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 12:47 AM by tritsofme
I'm sure their own internal polling confirms that IL is very safe for Kerry.

Only if we start seeing ads for either Kerry or Bush on local tv, is it time to panic.

8. I have a bridge I would like to sell to LaHood and CBS
channel 2.

Repukes are so discredited in Illinois, that I doubt we will elect another one for the rest of this century.

Don't make me laugh.

11. They maybe found ten Klansmen in Cook who like Bush.
Beyond that, I have a really tough time thinking this poll has much credibility...

The GOP and the DNC BOTH wrote this race off for Illinois as a strong Dem showing a long time ago. Given the tempest inside the Illinois GOP I'm inclined to agree with both those assessments.

Smells like a pile of elephant crap to me.

not one Kerry sign. Bumper sticker. Yard sign.

I saw one pathetic, slightly ripped Keyes sign. I felt sorry for it. It looked very lonely.

But, overall, Illinois is a lock for Kerry and Obama

14. lets see, CBS 2 probably polled quite a few suburbs
Unfortunately rich suburbs dont make up the entire population of Il.

And besides, Obama has a 40 point lead.

There is no way kerry will lose Illinois.
The republican party is done for in Illinois. After all the scandles from republicans named Ryan, after the embarassment of Keyes, Illinois won't go Republican for a very long time. Obama is getting about 65-70 percent and should help get Democrats to the polls to vote for Kerry. Keyes is polling 15-20 percent and he should keep Republicans from going to the polls to vote for Bush.

18. the latest polls show at least 12pt lead for Kerry
Obama's strengths are rising, even in central illinois, (Normal, Decatur, Springpatch) he has a solid 45pt. lead over Alan "Machine Gun" Keyes.

21. "republican party is done for in Illinois"
Not if Grover Norquist has his way and Bush stays in the WH, it will the the Dems who are toast. See how he envisions it happening.

23. His analysis is, like most Repuke analysis,
overly simplistic. He paints a picture as if all conservative policies will work (which we all know they aren't and won't) and as if all 30 red states elect only R senators. Ain't going to happen.

He's on the board of Americans for Tax Reform. That tells you all you need to know about his cognitive abilities.

19. I heard this came out of a local repuke committee meeting
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 10:29 PM by Amigust
several months ago, too. I figure they would like their members to believe it so no one gets complacent, and maybe if they charge them up this way, they'll show better Illinois results than otherwise. Also, there are always those GOP contributions to think about, if folks feel like it is close and there's a chance to tip it.

It came out at the same time news outlets were declaring Illinois solidly blue.

I presume they were also done in the Willow Creek Church parking lot.

Laugh at them.
