about 1000 people gathered In Barrington, IL to honor those killed in Iraq and hear speeches by clergy, a Iraq war vet and mothers of soldiers in Iraq. A procession down main street was lead by a flag draped coffin in memory of the 1035 soldiers killed to date. People followed carrying the names of the fallen and a lily, which were placed on the coffin after the speeches.

A few freeper types tried to disrupt the event, but they were unsuccessful.

The speeches were very heart felt. Rob Serra from Iraq Vets Against The War spoke eloquently. And the mothers words had people near tears.

The news links I posted cover the event pretty well.

4. A protest in Barrington. Amazing.
I graduated from Barrington Middle School. My 15 months there did wonders for preventing me from ever wanting to develop a brown nose for wealthy people.

I was at the time a precocious republican, but soon discovered just how moderate a republican, or how democratic a republican, I truly was. It was the time of Washington's election as mayor, and the subsequent race war between the mayor and aldermen. I got on a local GOP mailing list, and got this interesting newsletter which mostly talked about how the black people were breeding like mice and were going to take America over. Needless to say, it made me jump about four steps back from the Kool Aid.
