Chicago Neighborhood Map

If you are like me, and from the suburbs, the delineation of Chicago neighborhoods has always been a bit of a mystery...

2. the lines look
too straight!!
many of those neighborhoods were once independant towns, and many were privately owned land. rogers park was mostly (? totally? not sure) owned (stolen) by a guy named rogers, who negotiated the treaty with the local indians, (with the help of lots of alcohol)
most of the streets here are named after the investors, friends of his, who built the original homes and businesses.
lots of history in those names and lines on the map.

4. They usually follow street lines.
Obviously straighter than the original boundaries.

5. Neighborhoods
Hi,

Having lived in Chicago, I can tell you that we identify each other by 3 things....what neighborhood you are from, where you went to high school and if you are a Cubs or Sox fan. LOL...I've meet people in Europe from Chicago and it's the top 3 questions.

Cheers,
Kim

6. That's a pretty good map
Some of those names are questionable though. Like the DePaul area is "Sheffield Gardens", not "DePaul". I have a Chicago Neighborhood Map in my room. I'm pretty good with the whole city. I also have a street-by-street book that tells me how every street in Chicago was named. I love the history of this city.
