Saw a headline in the Ftw Journal Gazte..
Bayh might run for governor??..Wasn't aware that he could because of term limits...Not sure he would be any different than any other Republican if he can indeed run

1. That was talked about on election night.
But now they're saying that Mike Pence is also considering running...I thought his sights were set a little higher than state office.

He served two consecutive terms...if he runs again it will be for a new term(s). If memory serves, James Rhodes did this in Ohio.

2. Yes, he can run again in Indiana.
Not that the Dems here (except perhaps some in the state party) are anxious to see this happen. His term as governor was unremarkable, distinguished primarily by the fact that he was at the time the young, shining light for the Dems in Indiana. Now that we have seen him in action as a Senator (grr) and observed his method of bequeathing Indiana with a Dan Coats re-run, the bloom is off this rose.

I think both Pence and Bayh want to run for Pres but Bayh clearly can't challenge Obama unless things turn way worse than anyone expects. Pence has one foot in the governor's race and one foot in the presidential race, but there is the specter of Mitch Daniels also possibly in the presidential race. I think the media-genic Pence could thump Bayh in a governor's race despite his neanderthal politics.

3. Indiana Constitution states...
The executive power of the State shall be vested in a Governor. He shall hold his office during four years, and shall not be eligible more than eight years in any period of twelve years. (1972)

1816 Constitution has this...

Sect. 3. The Governor shall hold his office during three years, from and after the third day of the first session of the General assembly, next ensuing his election, and until a successor shall be chosen and qualified, and shall not be capable of holding it longer than six years in any term of nine years.

1851 Constitution has this...

Section 1. The executive power of the State shall be vested in a Governor. He shall hold his office during four years, and shall not be eligible more that four years, in any period of eight years.

If a Governor fails to complete their term and is replaced by the Lt Governor. The Lt Governor would not be able to run for a 2nd full term.
