Anybody else just plain embarrassed to be a Hoosier right now?
Edited on Sat Apr-30-11 10:03 AM by Brigid
Mitch Daniels is now refusing federal funding for Planned Parenthood, according to what I just heard on CNN. The report also said that Daniels insists that women will still have access to basic services, just not abortion. Yeah, right -- whatever, Mitch. Planned Parenthood says it plans to file a lawsuit.

Then, on the front page of the Terre Haute paper yesterday, the headline was about the huge school voucher program, supposed to be the biggest in the country. Good Lord.

Maybe I should move to Chicago instead of Indianapolis. At least it would be out of Indiana. X(

1. count me in too
I saw it on Huffington Post and the comments really made me more embarrassed to be a Hoosier these days. I wished they would show us liberals some mercy. We didn't vote for the guy!

2. Save all this info and be ready to use it later.
He says he wants to run for President. Hit him in the face with his contradictory, discriminatory and just plain stupid behavior if he gets a Presidential campaign going. A lot of us in other states won't like him any more than we like Trump or the rest of their asshat contenders.

3. I have never considered myself to be a Hoosier
Just a resident of the state. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Even Wisconsin has its faults. Walker and the Fitzgeralds.

4. Hoosiers
Hell yes, I am embarrassed to being called a "Hoosier"!!! I live 30 mi. W. of Notre Dame & about 60 mi. E. of Chicago. What a backward, stuck in the '50's State this is. I think the "Christian" right who control Indy would have us all go back to the "good old days".-LMFAO! Indiana, you know, south of the Mason/Dixon line. What a bad joke this place. This coming from a "born& bred Hoosier".

5. Hey Thomas
Born and schooled in South Bend but I grew up once I left this state. I'm only here because my husband got a job here. I can't find a job so anyway this back assward state really embarrasses me. I try to vacation out of state and tell people I live somewhere else when they ask. I just try not to talk like the hillbillies and keep my head held high. They hate liberals like me.

6. Back atcha
Hey little girl, I'm presently living in La Porte, a once beautiful & historic city with a lot of neat, old homes. The main problem is high unemployment & close to 40 bars, for a city of about 30,000ppl.
Lucky for me, I grew up closer to Chicago, where at least most people don't live in the Stone-Age. -aka the 50's. The Repukes in Indy have a strangle hold on everything, emboldened by Gov. Daniels & his partners in crime. The Bible-Belt is in full force once you leave the NW corner of the state. It's nice to hear from a "sane" Hoosier.-lol

7. been to LaPorte many times.
My ex father-in-law still lives there. He went to Italy with me and my extended family a few years back.

I'm surprised you found work there. I can't handle that lake effect snow anymore. We had ice this winter but up there, near the lake...I'll only visit the beach in the summer!!
If you head to Indy, let me know and we can meet for a meal or drinks or campaigning against these red folks. Sad to be so blue surrounded by a sea of red.

Yeah, I sure will. I've been to Indy only a couple of times. I was born in Gary & grew up in Portage. Much closer to "the City", than here in LP. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of great ppl here, but it still is basically- "Red Neck, white socks & blue ribbon beer". Add to that a church on every corner
& what riot at times. "Dyngus Day"? What a joke, drunk-ass "billies" going to 12 different bars.WTF???
Feel free to use "Tom", if you'd like. I'm not great on this here computer stuff, but if I knew how, I'd send you my reg. email address. Thanks for the chats! Nice to know there are SOME sane Hoosiers out there.

Well, what the hell? I was trying to find a way to "allow" my email address to be seen, but.... like I said, I'm not too good on this thing just yet. Anyway, - tschmitt196078@yahoo.com if you'd like to chat away from here sometime. Just a thought. Enjoy your day tomorrow, - Tom

10. Mitch makes me sick
Edited on Tue May-03-11 03:01 PM by Sadie5
Every time I have to look at his weaselly face on TV. He says there will still be care for women but where??? Wishard has now become part of IU and I don't think IU is in the free medical treatment business. There are a few small clinics spread around but those mostly take care of childhood vaccinations and such. This will be turned over to medicaid and guess what, Mitch is trying to curb medicaid too. I hope PP does file a lawsuit and I hope they can keep operating while Daniels moves on to his next con job which will be vouchers that the taxpayer will have to cover. Born and raised in Indiana isn't worth much anymore.

14. He's probably referring to HIP ( the Healthy Indiana Plan)
My daughter, at 20 years old, tried to get on that several years ago because she has a preexisting condition and couldn't afford to buy health insurance. She earned $8 an hour at her job. They sent her a letter saying she was on a waiting list and that only families with dependants could get on it.
She doesn't qualify because she hasn't popped out a baby for the state to pay pay for!
You want to know who is on it? My tea bagger brother in law and his wife. He was sending me emails about how terrible "Obama-care" was and I found out he was getting the state run insurance. That's your typical hoosier.
That was almost 4 years ago, She still can't afford health insurance. It would cost us over $350 a month to add her to my policy so we can't afford to do that either.
We'd leave this state if my husband could find work in a blue state.

12. Yeah...I'm embarassed!
I was born and raised here in Lafayette, IN. Spent nearly all my life here, been to Indy numerous times, spent time in Vincennes for 3 years for my Associates in Accounting. So yeah, I've spent a lot more time here in Indiana than anywhere else. And right now, yeah, I'm embarassed to even call myself a "Hoosier". And after finding out that Mike Pence is going to run for governor next year, my only thoughts would be things are going to get much worse. I don't even think we have a strong Democratic party in this state. Very frustrating if you ask me. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

20. If Mike Pence becomes Gubner I am definetly moving out of state.
Not being facetious here; he will ruin this state if he has the legislature to pass the most retro aganda in history. We will become worse than Alabama and Mississippi.

13. A little off topic
but I spent a little time looking at the new Congressional district map the republicans just approved. It would not surprise me to see Indiana elect 8 republicans and one democrat to Congress in 2012.

Joe Donnelly has already announced he's going to run for Lugar's Senate seat so I think we can write off the second district to the republicans. (I was gerrymandered out of the 5th (finally rid of Dan Burton) and into the second but I would not be surprised to see the second elect a teabagger like Rebbecca Kubacki in 2012.)

They've also shifted a lot of white, working class... neighborhoods into Carson's 7th district in Indianapolis so it is far from safe in 2012.

15. Carson's area
Was predominately Afro American and if this happens we can say goodbye to Carson. What a shame because his Grandmother held this seat for many years. I live in Avon and there are never any Democrats running out here against the Repubs. Lots of tea partiers too.

17. "If this happens..."
It is a done deal, the new districts are now set by law and even if they are challenged in Court it is highly unlikely it would succeed.

Edited on Sat Jun-25-11 08:18 AM by BiggJawn
I asked Don Lehe (House of Bubbas, 15th district)what my adult daughter was supposed to do now that PP was on the ropes. His reply? She could contact the county welfare agency for the name of another clinic that accepts Medicade patients... But she doesn't qualify for Medicade, because she hasn't made a grandfather out of me.
Fucked-up state, and nobody in the House of Bubbas can tell me just exactly what they're "protecting" str8 marriage from...
