Fahrenheit 9/11 In Iowa
Last I checked it was only scheduled for Des Moines and Davenport. I called theaters in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, they both said they would find out Monday (the 21st) if they were going to get it. Iowa City said if they do get it, it will be shown downtown (at the old, crappy theater with the worn out seats). Sure would be nice if we could see it at one of the nice, new theaters. I guess it's still better than having to drive so far.

1. The Old Capitol Mall theatres get all the indy films, now.
Odd. My fiancée lives there, so I'm frequently in IC. Luckily, here in Omaha, I live right across from an independent theater that will show it. In fact, Bowling for Columbine played there for six weeks--amazing for a right-wing town like Omaha!

2. I called the HQ for Cinemark who owns the theaters in CR that
play new films. They said they were still deciding. I haven't called back yet but I know they were getting a lot of calls.

3. Kind of thought they might be getting lots of calls
The woman I talked to sounded a little irritated. Don't know if it's because she's a Bush fan or just sick of all the calls.

4. If it was Dot down in Georgia she was real sweet when I talked
to her but I think they have probably been deluged since then.

Someone from Alabama called and talked to her also and she told her they had been leaning against showing it because of the controversy but now they were leaning to ward showing it.

She checked with the booker for the Iowa area (Beth) and told me to call back the next day to find out. I haven't called yet (bad me).

Maybe you got the girl she said watches the phones when she is at lunch or maybe they were getting so many calls other people had to start taking some of them also.

I just hope they show it here although I'm going to KC that weekend so I know I'm going to see it.

5. I called the theater in Cedar Rapids
So I think the person I talked to was local.

6. I am stunned it isn't showing in Iowa City
years ago I worked in theaters there and when owned by the chain Central States Theatre Corp they were incredibly cheap and unadventurous - no hope of them taking on a movie like this. Looks like CSTC soldout or changed their name to CEC. I would hope they could see that in a college town booking this movie is simply good business. I guess not. However, if they are using the Campus Theatres as their arthouse it would seem they might try it there... People in the movie business think only of product, not cinema.

7. It still might show
The woman I talked to sounded fairly optimistic, and if it does show it will open on the 25th. I guess we'll find out Monday. If I don't get to see it in Iowa City, I guess I can make the trip to Davenport.

8. Come on down!
The theater here in Davenport is really nice. Stadium seating and all. Its too bad the Enzler in Iowa City isn't open anymore. I bet they'd show it. Alas, we'll never know. Anyway, hope to see a lot of DUers at the Cinema 53 in Davenport for F911. This oughta be good!

10. If I want to see it tonight,
I'm going to have to drive an hour to Omaha or Sioux Falls. It's not showing in Sioux City.

11.  West Liberty Iowa at the New Strand in Sept
http://www.newstrand.com/
Small town theatre that the community helped refurbish a few years back. Tom and Christy Vilsack were there to help us along with the global volunteers from Minnesota. The gov helped us put in every seat in the center section while my wife and Christy scraped gum off the floor.
