I just sent a message to our Governor critter
I told him that I would very much like to see a policy that no state vehicles shall be refilled at BP branded gas stations under any circumstances. I realize boycotts may not be all the effective, but I have decided that I will not go to BP branded gas stations and I would like to see our government do the same.

1. Nice move
Perhaps we should all send a message like that to Culver and also our Mayors. And as far as boycotting BP, normally their gas is more expensive than other places, so it's easy to avoid them for other places.

2. True
What sucks is that the only gas stations open late at night along US 61 between Dubuque and the Quad Cities are all BP stations. I wish these places would take the hint and go with someone else.

3. Our friend owns a BP station
he and his wife work really hard and I won't punish him for the ills of his parent company.

4. and that is where the rub is. BP itself owns few stations. Franchisees do
And the products sold by BP are sold mostly to the Casey's of the world via delivery by truck from the pipeline.
Ergo the only real way to hurt BP is to quit using petroleum products.

Everytime one of the oil companies screws up, the call goes up to boycott. But they have so little interaction with the actual public, that it is near to impossible for the public to actually boycott.
In my younger gas station days, most of the gas sold in our area was from Kerr-McGee. I don't think there was but one or two DeepRock or KM stations around, but they were the local distributor for gas. So if you bought BP or Casey's or whatever the base gas was KM with additives for the particular company.
