Letter from Rick Dickinson
June 12, 2006 - A week has now passed since the June 6th Primary and I look back proudly on the race we ran. I will forever be grateful to all the wonderful folks who opened their homes, hearts and minds to me. As the campaign moved forward you made me a better candidate and now that my race has ended, I believe you have made me a better man.

This was a hard fought primary where we were out spent 2 to 1 yet we were able to garner 34% of the vote in a 4 way race, falling just 627 votes from being your nominee.

<snip>

Therefore, I ask you, my friends and neighbors, to support Bruce Braley as your next Congressman. Bruce won. I lost. The election is over. I forgive, and I ask you to do the same. The past is past and the future is what lies ahead of us. As our family has done for years, I will help get out the vote in Jackson County for our Democratic candidates and I respectfully ask you and all my supporters to do the same.

Politics and government must reflect who we are on our best days, not on our worst. Our world is upside down because America is upside down. We can right our beloved county if we use our heads, and not our emotions.

2. I don't understand the whole 'forgive' part, but glad that he is united
for a Democratic win in November.

Gluba should do the same thing - heck, even Blouin did it for Culver on his website. :bounce:

3. Probably...
...because the campaign got somewhat personal between Dickinson and Braley.

4. Did Braley 'forgive' Dickinson?
:shrug:

There is good news in this.... (From Chuck Taylor - Fayette County Chair):

<snip>

Friends,

I just got off the telephone with Bill Gluba. He called to let me know that he will not run as an independent candidate for the 1st District. He, like the rest of us, realizes that Bruce has a very tough opponent in Whalen.
Bruce will need each and every one of us behind him to be successful. Bill, like Rick, will do whatever he can to see that a Democrat is the new Congressman from Iowa's 1st District.

Bill, is a good, lifelong Democrat. He has work worked ceaselessly to put forward Democratic ideals and Democratic candidates. Our party is a better because he had the courage to stand-up for us.

<snip>

Now we can ALL move forward together! :bounce:

5. A side note....

I am glad to see that there are actually Democrats in Fayette county! I've hunted/fished/camped around Fayette for all of my life, and it is my experience that if there truly are Democrats in Fayette county they are vastly outnumbered! I will admit however, that the republicans I know from that area aren't freakass maniacs ala Steve King...mostly rural farmer conservative types.

6. Seth, Fayette County Dems ROCK!
If you are even in need of a GREAT party please ask to join me to their summer picnic, their Christmas party or their sustaining fund dinner (I live in Black Hawk but do my best to attend Fayette County events).

In Fact, Andrew Wenthe will be having a gathering the end of June if you are so inclined:

http://www.andrewwenthe.org/

Join Andrew and Pat Murphy, Democratic Minority Leader Iowa House of Representatives, in West Union June 28th!

Wednesday June 28th, Andrew and Pat Murphy will be holding a fundraiser at Country Hills Golf Course. Join us for refreshments as Andrew and Pat speak on issues facing District 18 and all of Iowa. The event starts at 6:30 and contact Jake Friedrichsen with any questions. jake.friedrichsen@gmail.com or 563-380-4697

Andrew worked for John Edwards during the Iowa Caucuses and then came on board with the IDP and worked in Black Hawk County - now he's running for a statehouse seat and would be AWESOME in the legislature!

Let me know if you want to head up to the FR :P

7. I just might do that!
I am not sure what my schedule will be like that day, or what my money situation will be like (Viva Las Vegas!), but I would love to meet some Dems from Fayette/West Union! That would be a lot of fun.

I will PM you when I get a definitive answer.
