Magnificent Party Building Day
Last Tuesday, the day of presidential caucuses all over Kansas, was the greatest party-building event in my memory in Kansas. All over Wichita, our caucus sites were bursting at the seams. At the site chosen for the 29th senate district, we had over 1600 participants, over 600 of which were new registrants. There were over 2000 participants at the Robinson Middle School site. While each site had a few problems managing the strong turn-out, everyone remained civil - even cheerful. People were happy to be sharing in what many perceived to be a history-making event. I've also heard that the caucusing in Lawrence and the KC area had similar experiences. This was a magnificent day for the Kansas Democratic Party.

1. It was absolutely wonderful
I made several new friends :)

We stood in freezing rain and then snow waiting to caucus. I heard people complained the next day but the mood at my caucus site was very positive.

I honestly can't remember a happier day for a Democrat in Kansas.

2. New Voters
I learned this week that the Democratic Party registered over 2500 new Democrats at the caucuses in Wichita. Some of these voters had previously been registered as Inds or Rs, but a lot were brand new registrants.

3. When I canvassed my neighborhood in 2006
I met a lot of Democrats who were registered as Republicans or Independents. Then I saw some of those same people in line at my caucus. Hopefully more of them will come around this year.
