Gambling
What is your position on this subject in kentucky?

Ive noticed that fletcher is using it as his main talking point and unfortunately i tend to agree that its a bad idea.

should the dems be supporting such an issue ?

i live in a small river town and worry it will bring unwanted change to the area(besides the cash flow).

1. Fletcher is a flip-flopper on this issue
His prior position was that he opposed it but was for a ballot initiative to let the people decide.
Now, he doesn't think the people should get to vote on it. He has also taken money from gambling interests (campaign contributions). If he's opposed to it, why is he taking their money?

Kentucky is loosing alot of money to neighboring states - money that funds education and other projects in THOSE states.

We already have legal gambling here in the form of pari-mutual wagering on horses, the lottery, bingos.

While Beshear supports legalizing cassinos, he will let the people vote on it. That should be all he says when Fletcher brings it up: "I want the people to have a vote on this issue."

is a vote.
but i dont think thatll be neceassarily fair.

of course the majority of the state is gonna vote yes... because they will get the tax money without the unwanted things that come with it, such as a rise in crime rate.

i thought fletcher used to be for it, but i wasnt sure. all i know is its the only issue hes running on and its a very hot button issue here along the river. alot of people, minus the city administrations, oppose this. they are fearful of a change in life or change of population in their small towns.

honestly i hate fletcher, but i dont like the idea of casinos at all.

4. My understanding is that "they" want to keep casinos
at the horse racetracks and would only place others outside a certain radius (i.e. can't be closer than 150 miles from any existing track. The horse racing industry doesn't want the competition.

6. well im speaking specifically
of river boat gambling.

i know for a fact that former democratic state party leader jerry lundergen has purchased lots of land along the river in anticipation of it being passed

im sorry but crooks and thiefs and other types of criminals ALWAYS follow where the money goes... and will do the same with river boat gambling.

3. Whatever happened to the lottery money funding education? Is that being siphoned for the Gen. Fund?
And I tend to agree that riverboat gambling is not the best idea. Perhaps if the state put some money into fixing up its state parks, upgrading lodging, campgrounds, beaches, etc. then more tourism dollars would flow in.

i can understand the need for more funds but i really just dont think river boat gambling is the correct coarse of action to solve it. theres got to be another way. i like your idea as far as tourism is concerned by the way
